Yanny when I use only the left or right headphone. Laurel when I use left and right.
Obviously it's an audio illusion so there's no right or wrong.

    I only hear Laurel.

I watched a clip where they played this with different pitches. High pitch = Laurel, low pitch = Yanny. Then I could finally hear Yanny!

So as I was wrong about that darn dress and its colors, I had to find out the truth. I googled it.

    And the correct answer is....

Laurel. I've heard the version when they separate out the high and low frequencies and I still hear laurel both times. :confuse:

I don't hear either. I actually hear YEAH-LEE. Which, I guess would be closer to YANNY. I have my headphones on and I am listening to it repeatedly and all I can hear is YEAHLEE.

And it turns out it has nothing to do with my being a non-native speaker of English. My fitness instructor is Slovak, his English is very limited and he says he can clearly hear LAUREL. So weird!

    A valuable lesson about perception.

It's all about frequencies. If your hearing is very good and you are still capable of hearing all the high frequencies, you will hear either yanny or aren't able to hear either clearly.

But if you're getting old and/or your hearing is not that good, you'll lose the high frequencies and end up hearing Laurel... because the "Yanny"-part only covers the high frequencies of that sound bit. ;)

    Maybe that explains:
That said, I usually hear the police/ambulance siren long before anyone else does.

Oh, no worries, we all have that in common. :hugs:Besides, the alternative wouldn't be very exciting and we couldn't have any conversations on here anymore. ;)

I heard it on my TV twice and both times I heard “Yanny.” I just played it again on my iPhone and now I only hear “Laurel.” I tried again with headphones and still only hear “Laurel.” :confuse:

Probably a very poor low quality soundchip in your phone, with next to no high frequencies... is it an Apple? :D

Yes. I heard it on TV and now on the recording at the link.

As it happens I am deaf in one ear so perhaps that explains it.
