Seeing as we have a thread for last movie and last TV show I thought it would be good to have one for documentaries too.

Fascinating look at the life of the ground breaking auteur and enigmatic rogue that was Orson Welles.

    I watched 3 in a row...
    Runway 95
A fascinating look at the era of the '90s supermodel. All black and white and funky music as things were in 1995. :)

Then I watched Balmain The Documentary

Then Netflix's 7 Days Out. Chanel

I think I was possessed by the spirit of Lagerfeld yesterday.

What's in a name? Quite a lot of your surname happens to be Hitler. In fact there are few, if any, surnames that carry as much weight and baggage as this one. This doc takes a look at the lives of people called Hitler and the reactions and ridicule they've had because of it. Some of the stories are funny and some of them have a good sense of humor about it, but others have found it a hard cross to bear.

    'Meet The Hitlers' (Netflix)

I watched this one last weekend. I thought it really became compelling in the last couple of episodes when they were showing actual video of his time in court and in captivity in Florida. I wanted to hear more from the woman who escaped him in Utah. I wondered if the two girls who survived his attack in the sorority house in Florida have ever spoken to the press and found this article:

I saw part 1 of a documentary about Lars-Inge Svartenbrandt, nicknamed "Sweden's most dangerous criminal", yesterday. He somehow fascinates. He's escaped from prison so many times, no matter how secure they were. But of course, always getting caught again for new crimes - mostly armed robberies.
Seems like his anger stemmed from an abusive aunt and then an abusive foster father who was also a pedophile. They interviewed a famous author also known for having been abused as a child, and he said that the anger never goes away, you need to channel it. They chose two very different ways of channeling their anger! One a successful author and journalist, the other Sweden's most dangerous criminal.

Sometimes I wasn't sure if it was fiction or real, but that also seems to be the essence of this underground culture, although part of it was popularized and commercialized in the 90s.
What really surprised me is that so many of these people dreamt of being rich and famous, looking or posing like a glamorous woman wasn't enough anymore, they wanted to have what Rich White America had - or how it was perceived in the magazines and commercials (and soaps).
And to think that "looking fab and feeling great" was going to achieve that.
With these different themes going on at the same time, and the entertainment value of some of these colourful people, it almost looks like brilliant fiction.

It's strange that the characters from POSE turn out to be so victim-y and uninspiring, if you consider the amazing source material.

I have a vague memory of watching this about 25 years ago but I've been meaning to watch it again. It'a often referred to on Rupaul's Drag Race, in fact, one of the challenges they do every year is inspired by a part of it. And I see it's on Netflix so I will get round to it one of these days.

Considering I opted out of social media pretty much a few years ago, and I don't have Instagram or Twitter, this was quite an interesting and informative look at a world I am increasingly more out of touch with. And maybe I'm better off!

It's funny that netflix knows what I'm looking for, eventhough they don't have it (yet)
    upload_2019-3-4_0-33-58.png

I've just started watching the movie THE READER (Kate Winslet, Ralph Fiennes), I'm sure you have already seen it because it looks like a story you would enjoy.

Oh boy, this is an incredible story with so many weird twists and turns. It's hard to fathom how naive the Brobergs were, but they were different times, and they were the target of a master manipulator who was hellbent on taking their daughter from them. It's a dark tale that's every bit as gripping as it is disturbing.

I watched this a few weeks ago. I had mixed feelings about it. I think the parents knew more than they let on. Nobody is that naïve, I'm sorry. And the way the mothers face lights up, she practically glows and smiles when she remembers her love affair with her daughters abductor. Then that lovely little fay florist father, reaching over to relieve him in the car. Yea.. I'm out. And who puts their God damn daughter on a flight by herself to go see a man who once kidnapped her?
To me it seemed both parents wanted that man in their lives, and maybe buried their heads in the sand regarding the daughter and what he was doing with her. Bizarre!

Who lets a grown man sleep in their young daughters bed 4 times a week, as a way to get him to stop his pedo ways? I don't care if it was the '70s, I don't care if they were Mormons, there is only so God damn naïve a parent can be.

Ha! When I spotted this I thought it was a show about interior design and all kinds of fabulous and bizarre staircases.

I mean the whole things is so bizarre, but I actually do think they were just that stupid. I mean they weren't very bright and it clearly didn't take much for someone pretty clever to win them over and seduce them, even the father! Let's face it, there's a lot of pretty dumb people out there. And I guess the abuser must have been pretty charismatic cause they all kind of loved him. But yeah some of the things they did and didn't do, and allowed to happen are just insane. And it's one thing to get taken in by this guy the first time, but like you said, letting her take that flight! It really beggars belief.

Oh you should watch it Willie. I think you'd find it interesting. The whole story is just so out there.

Yeah. I think they were they same ones that called that radio station at the beginning of 'Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft'
