So we all know that many of the DALLAS guest stars were on plenty of other things prior to their appearances on the show: old things like GUNSMOKE and BONANZA, or THE BIG VALLEY. Some of them seemed to do a tour of the soaps, appearing on KNOTS LANDING, FALCON CREST, or DYNASTY and THE COLBYS. But in between his stints on GUNSMOKE and DALLAS, Leonard Katzman produced the enjoyable, if short-lived, PETROCELLI. For such a brief run--forty-four episodes plus a pilot--it featured an incredible percentage of future DALLAS actors. Now that the show is on DVD, I thought it would be interesting to compile some of their images here, if for no other reason than to stimulate interest in the show...:)

    Great stuff
I watched a prog last week - happened to be flicking thro the channels and it was about Earl Hamner, creator of the Waltons
and i had forgotten that Morgan Woodward played Boone Walton and also other Dallas supporting players appeared in the show
I love spotting Dallas cast minor players in other roles
Will get round to buying Petrochelli but i will have to get the German version as its not out here

William Windom looks very different there to his portrayal of Amos Krebbs!

My curiosity has been piqued with pictures you've posted of Susan Howard in the show before now. This thread has well and truly put it on my radar.

Wow! I've seen all of season one of Petrocelli and I must say I totally didn't recognize some of the actors, or maybe I recognized them but couldn't place them. So thanks for doing this. Now I know why they looked familiar. :)

Petrocelli was such a great show. I loved seeing all the future Dallas cast members show up as guest starts. Too bad it only lasted for two seasons.

Yeah it's a nice show and it was great to see Susan in something besides Dallas.
Also speaking of Susan we saw a movie with her last night, "Come the morning" from 1993. It was really good. :)

I must get the DVDs of Petrocelli sometime to see if second time around he finally gets to finish building his house.

I always used to say no wonder Donna left him for Ray - at least he had a house and no caravan!!

Think the house used to be built by 6 bricks every epiosde

I saw Petrocelli on its first run and liked it a lot - even if it was largely a Perry Mason clone. As a matter of fact due to the similarity of her name to Susan Hayward, who was my mother's favourite actress, I had already noticed her guest appearances on series even before that so I was already very familiar with Susan Howard long before Dallas..

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Even though he never finished the house--twelve bricks an episode over 45 episodes isn't very productive--I still love the show. Somehow I forgot one of my favorites in the previous post...

I haven't managed to capture him yet, but Fred Stromsoe, an assistant director on DALLAS, was the stunt coordinator for PETROCELLI and wound up playing several bit roles in the series, including the murder victim in the first (non-pilot) episode.

Producers do tend to cast people they already know or think can deliver- Many directors use the same actors a lot in their movies, it's not much different. And of course, Bryan Cranston was cast by Gilligan because he had previously worked with him and knew what he could do when it seems others were a bit perplexed at Cranston getting the role.

He's making decent progress, but crime never lets up in San Remo :p

I notice more on repeated viewings. Also, IMDB helps if I don't recognize/remember someone :)

Yes, when you see his episode of THE X-FILES, it makes complete sense.

So Jordan Lee has appeared several more times as the (unnamed) judge.

And our favorite lawyer showed up :)

    Harv Smithfield (George O. Petrie)

And I believe I finally caught Fred Stromsoe, the assistant director who appeared onscreen in DALLAS's final season

I would never have guessed that the judge was Don Starr (alias Jordan Lee)! He really did change a lot over the years!

Always a handsome man, but just very different! :)
