Nothing new in Coronation Street airing dark and violent storylines.

Characters like Alan Bradley too were renowned for terrorising the street with violence.

Connor Mcintyre has done a brilliant job of playing evil Pat. If his portrayal makes the viewers really despise him, then he is playing his part to perfection.

There's other stuff too, such as Norris antics in the cabin and Rob discovering he has testicular cancer, but if the show only featured people sitting around drinking tea and talking about the weather, that would be so dull it would generate no viewers interest at all.

Interesting how there were only 6 murders in the first forty years.

Then on the turn of the century, we get 16 murders in 17 years.

Depending on the characters and what they're capable of.

Serial killers do exist in the world, the only reason a majority of viewers do not relate to stories involving them is that they haven't come across one themselves. But they do exist and soaps have to reflect the fact, and a great deal of research is gone into creating a story based around them.

Who is saying they don't exist?

Viewers imply that when they slate a soap storyline involving one.

The way some complain these days, you'd think that the people in the soaps weren't acting and actually doing it.

    I think you're confusing yourself.

Viewers are not denying serial killers, they are questioning the writing.
