Although I think FC became even campier by its Season 7, while I never found DYNASTY "campy" so much as stilted and illogical-by-every-frame -- an illogic and stiltedness enhanced by the static acting directive (which people hate me referring to) and the endless purple prose.

That tacky night club in the Del Oro vs. La Mirage.
Dynasty did it first but that's certainly not a compliment.

And then there's that baby-killing post-party vehicular crash between two feuding women!

And DYNASTY never had a child as cute as Little Joseph; Kwysthteeena was as close as they'd get.

Yes, until FC went all out shlocky-campy, a la Carly Fixx and whatnot, made worse by that Lorimar post-production blurriness from late Season 5 and beyond.

Both shows experienced a startlingly similar trajectory.

Well, I'm back around to that time again: watching FC from the pilot onward (at least The McCullough Years) -- although I decided not to wait until March 1st this time, but for reasons undetermined chose to start a couple of weeks early.

It's been an annual thing since 2013.

I'm enjoying the stand alone episodes from early-S1 more than I have in the past. And, yes, some of the weird parallels to DYNASTY just kind of hit me in the face.... and, amazingly, DYNASTY didn't steal all of them.

Was watching S2's "The Vigil" with Baby Joseph on life support.

Jeez, what a stinky writer the creator's son, Scott Hamner, is -- no wonder DYNASTY promptly made him their story editor... Did he ever get any better? I see he later did some scripts for KNOTS.

Thanks so much for posting this image again. I just adore Jane in that Krystle hair-do, and Chase is divine with grey hair! Dynasty Crest should really have happened, instead of the later seasons of these shows...

Rewatching S2 and S3 reminds me of how lush and good-looking a show early FC was, the grounds and locations sumptuous and gorgeous, even when they were off-location and actually back in L.A. While DYNASTY, at least after S2 (when they faked it better) is soon just claustrophobic with a lot of gowns.

There's so much Victorian fine furniture on FC, while DYNASTY is just a sea of white, stuffed couches and pseudo-art deco.

Of course, FC lost its gothic-y roots pretty quickly.

Tony Cumson and Dynasty's Rashid Ahmed were both acted by John Saxon.

I'm yet again watching the first three seasons as I now do every March. Too bad they haven't put S4 on DVD yet. (I wish JfL's thread "What is it about Falcon Crest?" hadn't died with the site in 2016). And the parallels between the first two years of FC and DYNASTY just hit you in the face.

*S8 both shows reduced their glamour, got middle-class characters and storylines and focused more on younger characters.
    * In S9 the blond heroines disappear + Richard becomes a new enemy, Alexis becomes a real rival.
*Both show even had a plane crash, a doppelganger and a "thorn bird" storyline.
