    Revenge
writer Sallie Patrick who, as I like to point out, began her career with a terrible episode of Dirty Sexy Money in 2008 (the one where Jill Clayburgh runs over a female biker and then Donald Sutherland and Peter Krause salivate over her) has signed a new deal with CBS which puts her in charge of the new DYNASTY series on The CW as showrunner, should the pilot go to series.

Though she is best known for Revenge, it should be noted she wasn't one of the original writers for that show's excellent first season - she joined Revenge in season 2 when the show began its gradual deterioration into convoluted mess. Coincidence or did she contribute to the show's creative problems?

The future might tell us how competent of a writer/showrunner she really is.

Sweet baby Jesus... Having watched all of Revenge and Dirty, Sexy, Money recently this could be horrific. I remember that sucky episode and the awfulness of season 2 Revenge.

How come these people are given so many second chances? I thought that, if you want to survive in Hollywood, you have to be really good?
Or is it because all the real talent is too busy writing fan fictions on forums?

The guy from "Elf." I may be misinformed, but he's made so many bad movies and just isn't charismatic or all that funny. And yet he's gotten awards and has been in so many things... so maybe I just haven't seen all the right things.

I suspect it's because they can come up with great story points that catches attention - first we have a plane crash! And then an aborted marriage! And then an explosion! It all sounds very exciting when you put it like that, the issue with these writers isn't that they can't come up with an exciting scenario for November sweeps that the network execs can promote; it's the stuff that comes between point A and point C that's the issue.

She might be better at coming up with the main plots for the season then she is writing episodes. The key to any successful primetime soap isnt just the show runner..but the script writers bringing each episode alive.

I watched the first several episodes of Revenge! I was even an extra in episode 2 of season 1. But I stopped watching after that woman fell from the window down to the car. Revenge is one of those shocking shows, so that's what Dynasty needs.

Melrose Place was shocking, but they hired all CW writers. Not good. That's what ruined that show. Not only CW writers but young ones who didn't know the original. Dyansty, with this re-make, doesn't really have to do that now.

I thoroughly enjoyed Revenge until that train-wreck of Season 2 came along. What the hell happened? Anyway I stopped watching.

Melrose Place was such a wasted opportunity and should've been the easiest show ever to reboot as it's basically about people in their 20/30s in an apartment complex. Ironically, the short-lived LA Complex ended up being more Melrose than Melrose - too bad that was just a cheap import so The CW never attempted to promote it and used it as filler.

That they had the nerve to actually ask Daphne Zuniga what her characters occupation was; it's only pretty much introduced in her first appearance on the show! So lazy.

I should have written it. Wait...IMDB me. No big connects. Plus I didn't write for a past CW show.

I have heard so many say that worked the show it was bad. It was all connect based (I had submitted to even be a PA on it and whoever answered was very rude and wanted to know how I got their number...then they kept telling me to call back weeks later and then when I did they were fully staffed. They did, however, accept my resume...GO ME!...no hard feelings though!) But if you look at some of the PAs they had...WOW. One guy with blue hair, another fell asleep on set and they you tubed it and made a laugh about it. Not good. Not good at all. They didn't bring in old writers, not even to help one bit. They scrambled, yes SCRAMBLED watching the episode Sydney died. The season 5 finale. How do I know this? Hah! Well, let's just say I knew a lot of people who worked the show, some were extras, some were stand-ins, others were lucky to even be there doing what they did. The crew were right in front of them, watching the episodes AS THEY WERE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE HECK TO DO. I mean, it's not just me. Any devoted fan of the original can see that's what they did. They didn't even bring in ONE WRITER from the original who knew the show. They brought back the few cast members who just explained to them what happened with their characters and whatever they were given that was it...

You can't just watch the effin' season 5 finale and that's it? Michael's hands were bandaged in season 5 finale in his last scene. And then they had him up and working the night of Sydney's wedding. How stupid. They made it feel like she got married "weeks" later.

The writers, had they been devoted...

Would have never let Michael fake Sydney's death. Maybe Matt? Michael was in the hospital RECOVERING.

They said Syd was an alcoholic because of Michael...Not true.

How the heck did Sydney have the money to buy MP? She was BROKE! Did Carter show up and have Syd fake her death? He was RICH. Martin Abbott wasn't. Maybe Carter died and Syd inherited his money?

Did Lexi still own it when Syd bought it? Where did Lexi go?

Jane comes back. Baby? She'd be around 9 now. Nope. We don't know. We can assume she lost it. Kyle? Where is he? We can assume he left her. Where is he now?

Michael is David's father. But wait...that was supposed to be Jake's son. Wow. Weird. Even if Grant couldn't be there. Just weird. I didn't like Michael in this. He was just evil. Not funny.

Amanda faked her death. HOW DID SHE GET AWAY WITH IT? Where is Peter?

The show needed a writer's adviser. Had I been a PA and I saw that mess going on I would have risked it and told the upper crew I knew the show inside out. Let's face it, I was a devoted fan. The original returns were not good and they needed a writer's adviser, either someone who knew the show inside out or an original or several original writers for that.

All this above stuff should have been cleared before the show ended in episode 18. Just a mess!

With Dynasty, they are starting fresh, it's not a continuation and it can be done in any way.

I googled Dynasty and Sallie's name and got here. Just want to point out as someone who worked with her on Dirty Sexy Money she was a humongous reason that show was a pleasant place to work. Great person and talented. And she was just a baby writer. Paired with more experienced writers so it's actually hilarious that people here blame her for the show. I just imdb'd that episode and actually she co-wrote it with Paul Redford. On a show, the younger writers barely write anything at first plus the show runner is responsible for story. So to your logic you should be worried about the baby writers on Dynasty. And another correction is that she was on Revenge from the beginning. She wrote episodes in the first season and was gone by the end (which was terrible in the end indeed). Like I said, I worked with her and am still friends with her. So I had to correct your fake news!

Well, maybe you're friends with her so rose-colored glasses!

However, we're all sort of bitter about how TNT screwed up Dallas. And how The CW screwed up Melrose Place. So excuse my pardon... I want to see results. Yes, we'll be judging Sallie weekly when it actually airs - mind you, I'm realistic; this is geared towards the 18-34 demographic. I'm two years away from growing out said demographic!

I just don't think she'll do a satisfying Dynasty. Maybe it'll happen but I expect the worst - been burnt so many times before etc.

Completely fair. Judge away. I was only correcting the untrue things being said.

Having worked in TV for a while on the production side it's a crazy machine, so many factors go into success and demise. Most reboots are bound to fail due to the so many voices weighing in. Original fans, new ones, network, studio, original creators, new creators. etc. and I don't even know for sure if she is the primary voice or if it's the gossip girl people. I simply like to root for the good ones and she is one of those.
