Anyone else remember reading about another potential spinoff in the 80s, with Ray and Donna in Hawaii? Does anyone else have more details of what the setup would have been. Could there possibly have been a duller character proposed for a lead in a spinoff than Ray? And anyone less suited to living in Hawaii?

It's funny you mention this, as I was thinking just yesterday of a spin off I thought about a long time ago for Donna - a political spin-off about her in D.C. that begins in 1987. It would show her working her way up the political tree to becoming our first female president.

Running a dude ranch with various guest stars dropping in and out maybe? I just couldn't imagine Ray as the lead of a show. Unless him and Donna were going to be part of some sort of Knots style ensemble.

On the subject of spinoffs, were there any other proposed Dallas offshoots that never came to fruition? Given how huge the show was, I'm surprised they weren't trying to milk it for all it was worth. Or were countless spinoffs seen as more of a sitcom trend at that time? I know there was talk of Knots Landing spinning off a show about the younger characters like Paige in the late 80's.

Well, not if Bonnie aka the trashy bar girl follows the couple and begins to act like Connie aka the crazybat...Oh and I´d never read anything about this spin-off specifically, only a passing comment on this here and there, but nothing else. But Donna certainly used to wear on "Dallas" flowery shirts once in awhile...

I did read an article in a French TV mag at the 80´s where they talked about a "Dallas" spin-off with Bobby leaving for Chicago, I think, to work for a tough boss played by Raymond Burr. His love interest would be Jaclyn Smith. And I´m not making this up! I still must have the clipping somewhere...I could see this if the series had ended when Linda Gray left (but they renewed it for two more seasons...).

They could have done a sitcom spinoff set at the Hot Biscuit, a la "Alice".

Maybe a Perry Mason type show starring George Petrie as Harv Smithfield.

"The Graisons"- an even more upscale spinoff featuring the Portstache.

"The Eugene and Miss Sally Mysteries", with the mismatched duo solving crimes.

I love this idea, but I'd re-title it to something short and punchy like the parent show.

    How about "Bullocks".

Allegedly, FLAMINGO ROAD was initially planned out as joint spinoff of DALLAS and KNOTS LANDING, with cousins Annie and Paul Fairgate becoming regulars with the possibility of Cliff Barnes joining also.

But FR ended up airing on a different network so it ended being a standalone series.

I'm glad DALLAS never went down the road of endless, pointless spinoffs, KNOTS was more than enough, however one spinoff I think would have been good was Lucy going off to an East Coast, Bostonian, blue blooded ivy league university in an ensemble cast.

That would've been a fairly tenuous connection to use, just to have it connected to a hot show. But I suppose that is how a lot of spinoffs are done.

That could have been interesting. Karen Allen was on the verge of becoming a big star at one point.

Interesting stuff. I always wanted to see a connection between Dallas and Falcon Crest or even Knots Landing, just to show they were in the same universe. If Abbey had married Richard after Maggie died - dang. That could have been fun.
