For a long time I've thought about buying Peyton Place on DVD, and the bootlegs, of course. I found a copy on some website (the name is escaping me as I write this), but it's only like fifty dollars. I'm going to buy this DVD holder to place them in nicely.

What should I be looking forward to with television's first prime time serial? The pros, the cons?

No cons to speak of. It's like watching a really long and satisfying book.

That's a very warm and positive insight for a never-before-viewer. It certainly gives me hope that once I get this ordered and start watching it, I'll fall in love with it and have my own opinions to write for all of you here.

Yea, It's pretty wonderful. Like as James said a book or a series of books. I gobbled it up like the greedy soap slut I am.

I found this website that had the complete series of Peyton Place, on bootleg of course, for like fifty dollars. It's no longer available. Anyone know where I could get a good, clean copy of the complete series?

Does no one know of a place I can find a nice copy of this series?

    Someone has to.

I got mine on iOffer years ago. I got it for a great price too, but iOffer is no more. So I don't know where you would get it. The whole thing was on YouTube quite recently though. Maybe it's still there?

With over five-hundred episodes to watch, I seriously doubt I'd get it all finished before they snatched it off again.

That's why I was looking for a DVD copy.

    Some way. Some how.

    Beggars and choosers...
Well if you at least started it on YouTube you could work on getting the entire show on DVD. I watched the show over about 4 years taking long gaps here and there and it was still very enjoyable.

I've watched all uploads by youtuber SoapNThings almost 4 years ago. It's still there if you want it.

    @Alexis
I remember when it was on iOffer. The entire set was like forty dollars once.

C'mon, don't be mean to me.

    I know I'm old-fashioned because I want the DVDs.

I mean I wanted DVDs of Paper Dolls and some other shows but if they weren't available and were on YouTube I would snap them up before the vanished completely. I watched Models Inc, Paper Dolls, Savannah and maybe even CPW on YouTube. And I wouldn't have been able to watch them otherwise.

I love the YouTube. It's a treasure trove of camp and hag-horror movies, great mini-series and complete soaps. Ooh I think they still got Dark Shadows!
And I love the youtubers who make it all possible.

Of course it's much nicer to have the series on the shelf, but the whole point of a soap is that you watch it, not just talk about things you're going to watch (and then never do).
And don't expect those bootleg DVDs to be a better quality version. It's possible if there have been several re-runs in different countries, but with very obscure titles like Peyton Place I wouldn't be surprised if someone has downloaded the uploads from YouTube (!) and put them on DVD-Rs. Without nice boxes and covers.
    Well I'm just saying

    Well, honestly....

It will probably be a long time before I get around to this show. There are so many episodes and I have a terrible habit of falling into long and drawn-out viewing slumps where I can go months, and years even, without watching a single episode.

    I dunno
I'm the same way - I currently have Prisoner Cell Block H (ep. 364), Mary Hartman (ep. 156), Dark Shadows (ep. 250) and Mary Tyler Moore (3x01) on my watch list that I hit pause on a couple of months ago. I'll probably pick these up this summer and maybe try to finish Prisoner and Mary Hartman this summer, but of course I just started watching Peyton Place and I'm a bit addicted with only three episodes in. Le sigh. At least with half hour shows it's "only" 257 hours, clocking in at slightly more than Melrose Place, Dynasty and Falcon Crest.

ETA: I also have Boris Karloff's Thriller on my watch list (ep 1x13), but at least that's an anthology series that can just be picked up at any time :drama:
