HBO has now confirmed what most already thought; the final season, s8, will air in 2019.

The show is filming until this summer, and post-production will then work hard on making the last 6 episodes magical.

I can't say I'm surprised. I'm sure these final episodes are going to be worth the wait. I'll be patient for quality ...as if I had a choice.

I'm not as fanatical about Game of Thrones as some of the people I work with. When this series ends I believe I'm going to have to muster all my strength to accommodate all the tears coming my way the day after the final episode airs....and that'll be the men :p

According to Maisie Williams (Arya), the final season kicks off in April 2019.
They are shooting the whole year, up until December.

Forget above post. Maisie Williams tweeted that the supposed quote about release date is incorrect. It was taken from an interview she gave years ago.

So we still only know it's set for somewhere 2019.

Iain Glen (Ser Jorah) recently said that he is happy with how the show will end, having read the last script. He said that for a series like GOT, it's impossible to please everyone, but the show will get a closure that he feels is fitting and satisfying.
