… for the first time in several years.

I looked like I'm effin' thirty --- it's ridiculous. No lines, no bags, no jowls.

O, the tribulations of unencumbered middle-aged beauty.

First up let me commend you on your bravery and congratulate you on your eternal youth.

Funnily enough, I too have been considering shaving my beard. Not that I want to be rid of it mind you, more out of curiosity. But I am somewhat nervous that my once chiseled jaw line will have been replaced with something like this:

So I'm waiting for the right time, where I don't have too many public engagements, just in case.

Did you have a beard before it became hipster-y?

I have never had a full beard. It takes me forever to acquire even a decent stubble. In fact the facial hair in my display pic is probably a weeks growth or close to it. I shave on average once a week, but I look foetal regardless.

Have you considered one of these?

I think, it's very convincing. However should I have to wear any kind of prosthetic hair, I think I would rather it atop of my head and not as a facial appendage.
I'm not ruling out some wiggery down the line.

I don't know if you are familiar with the Joan Collins' wig collection. Of course I wouldn't blame you for opting for her 'Alexis':

But may I suggest my personal favourite, 'St. Tropez':

But there's plenty to choose from: http://www.joancollinswigs.co.uk/wigs-by-joan-collins-collection.html

I had a beard in high school. Her name was Jessica, and I'll bet she still hates me.

It's very easy for me to grow a beard. Seriously, if I miss a single day of shaving, it shows. Three days and my friends say I look like a vagrant. Too bad it won't grow out of the top of my head as easily as it grows on my chin and neck.

For years the company I work for would not allow facial hair, so I got used to not having it. They had to "relax the rule a bit" (in other words, throw it out) because one of the Operations VPs at corporate had been doing the "fashionable stubble" thing for years and someone finally pointed out the hypocrisy. I don't like how it itches when it grows, so clean-shaven I will remain. Pity I can't get that child-like quality that it gives some others.:re:

It doesn't itch, but I feel weird by the third or fourth day and that is usually when I shave it, though usually I save it every three days. I find a lot of men in their 20s and 30s sexy in their (short) beard or stubble, but by their 40s I am not into it.

Not sure. I've had one on and off. But they tend to make you look older.

And vice versa, I've read that it acts as a natural sunscreen, so when you do shave it after years your skin there is much younger than anyone that age who didn't have a beard.
