In terms of the Midlands soaps, there’s only been Doctors and Crossroads that were successful and long-running.

The remaining writers could’ve continued Crossroads after Hazel Adair and Peter Ling.

Whilst killing off Jill Harvey didn’t help the show, bringing back Stevie Harris (Wendy Padbury) and George Petersham (Raymond Mason) would’ve helped compensate for the loss.

Crossroads could’ve moved on from Jill Harvey therefore, with the characters being blended in well with the cast from when it ended in 2003 and picking up where it left off. It’d need a good producer though who knows what they’re doing and getting the balance correct with blending/merging the original Crossroads and new Crossroads together to form one successful continuous prolonged show.

Crossroads was never just about Jill Richardson/Harvey/Chance, so killing off the character in itself wasn't a problem. I felt the new Crossroads never really decided if it was meant to be a continuation of the original series or a new soap using the same name. To save the Crossroads revival, they should have taken inspiration from the original series.

I would have had David Hunter's son Chris, now a director at Major International Hotels, attempting a hostile takeover of Crossroads Hotel and being totally ruthless in the pursuit of his goal. Brian Jarvis, Jill's cousin, would come back to help Sarah Jane fight off the takeover but really is trying to get his hands on the hotel for himself.
