What are your favourite smartphone apps? My top 10 are:

Citymapper - great for finding the best routes around London and when to expect the next bus or train.

    Instagram
    - I'm not a major user of social media but I photography is one of my hobbies and I like sharing some of my favourite photos with my followers.

    Twitter
    - I rarely tweet but mainly use this to catch up with the latest news.

    Fotmob
    - to check the latest football scores. I set the notifications so it sounds like a football crowd cheering whenever Arsenal score a goal and a loud groan when they concede a goal. As a result, I can keep up with the progress of a match from just the sounds that emanate from my phone.

    Accupedo
    - a step counter to make sure I active enough each day. I like this one as it can convert my steps into an estimate for miles walked.

    MySupermarket
    - to compare the prices of groceries in different supermarkets.

    Our Daily Bread
    - suggest Bible passages to read each day with associated notes.

    TodayTix
    - to find discounted theatre tickets

    Inkpad Notepad
    - for making and keeping quick notes without having to use a pen and paper.

Soundhound - to identify random bits of music that I hear as I go through the day.

Most of the apps I use are for boring, practical things for things like surround sound, CCTV, doorbell, heating, banking, etc. Outside of these, and those already installed on my phone (Health, etc.) I have very few apps.

A few that I regularly use:

    English Dialects
My sole concession to a "fun" app. You answer questions about your pronunciation or expressions you use and it guesses where in the UK you hail from. All feedback indicates it's highly accurate. It's never got within 100 miles of me, but one constant for me is people finding my accent hard to place. Even when I was at school people said I didn't sound local.

    BBC Weather

    The Guardian

I really need to try that!!! What fun to see where I should live. If the app can make sense of my accent at all, considering I'm not a native - or have ever been to UK/US or other English speaking country.

It's a good job Graeme McDowell doesn't have that app or they'd never figure out where he comes from!

I think the same is true for most of us. Mobile bank ID, bank, payment service, e-parking, public transport apps, news, Google maps, Dropbox or another cloud, e-mail, voice recorder, Play Store, weather forecast, YouTube, calculator, calendar etc.

Additionally, I have plenty of Swedish apps that I won't post considering most of you are not Swedes.

So I tried it and it suggests I'm from one of these places:
    1. Blackden Heath, south of Manchester
    2. Copmanthorpe, near York
    3. Archorondel, on Jersey

Oh - that's really interesting. Especially with two of them being in the North and the other being waaaay South of the mainland.

I'm curious to know more about these. After all, you were interested in the app about the UK. ;)

I was really fascinated by this app so I tried it. I'm from London, the north west of it so not a cockney and not from posh parts like Kensington and Chelsea so I don't speak the Queen's English either (thankfully). I think I have a bland, non-descript accent however the app identified it as follows:

    1. Rhoose
    2. Lynton
    3. Burnham-on-Sea

The app is a lot of fun but it wasn't very accurate for me.

I haven't used the dialects app for a little while, so I just had a go (twice) to see what it would say today. Both times I got:
    1. Ticehurst
    2. Tunbridge Wells
    3. Five Ashes

I always seem to end up in that part of the country, although I sometimes get slightly different towns or villages within that region.

To be fair, I'm quite borderline with some of the questions. More often than not I'll put a "r" sound in the middle of "thawing", but sometimes I don't. I usually pronounce the "h" in "hands", but there are occasions when I don't. I usually don't pronounce the "l" sound in "shelf". But it has been known. A lot of it depends on context or sentence structure.

And the many different names for the animal that carries their house on its back always makes me smile.

Wow. I've known people who are from Burnham and Rhoose and they could not sound more different. It's interesting to see which areas have commonalities according to the app.

    Today's results:
    1. Pulloxhill
    2. Hamstreet
    3. Petworth

This app is determined that I'm from within a fifty mile radius of London.

    And from today:

    1. Brent Pelham
    2. Guston
    3. Steeple Morden

It's muddied, no doubt, by the app being restricted to dialects in England, meaning it can't pick out other significant influences on my accent. But even so it seems inconsistent.

I'm now wondering if my accent changes every once in a while.

Galaxy darts is another good app, you can play darts against programmed or on-line opponents, to varying degrees of skill difficulty.
