    1. The Chamber (this sounds very Haddaway)
    2. It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over
    3. Empty Hands (mostly for the music)
    4. Stillness Of Heart
    5. In The Black
    6. Sex
    7. Dig In
    8. Are You Gonna Go My Way
    9. Low
    10. New York City

After listening to all his albums I'm feeling a bit underwhelmed. It sounds like boyband balladry disguised as rock, and the "let's make this world a better place" theme is a little cliché imho.
But he's an officer of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres so it's very well possible that I'm completely missing the point.

If I was inclined to include festive songs, Leann's cover of All I Want For Christmas Is You would have been a contender for the #1 spot. With Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree right under it.

    But since I'm not...
    1. Crazy
    2. I Need You [the Almighty and Graham Stack mixes are fantastic]
    3. How Do I Live
    4. Closest Thing To Crazy [with Elaine Paige]
    5. This Love
    6. Unchained Melody
    7. Can’t Fight The Moonlight
    8. We Can
    9. Suddenly
    10. You Light Up My Life

    And just underneath...
    • These Arms Of Mine
    • Purple Rain
    • We’re Running Out Of Time
    • Bridge Over Troubled Waters [sic]

    2 Unlimited vs Vengaboys
    2 v V.jpg

As always, if you have ten favourites from both sides,
then please post the two lists and I will include them in the final tally.

    2 Unlimited
A dance act founded by Belgian producers Jean-Paul De Coster and Phil Wilde in 1991 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

During 1991 to 1996, 2 Unlimited worldwide mainstream success
scored a total of 16 chart hits.

They have sold 18 million records worldwide. Although they enjoyed less mainstream recognition in the United States, many of their songs have become popular themes at American sporting events, particularly in the NHL and the NBA.

    Vengaboys
A Dutch Eurodance group based in Rotterdam.

The Vengaboys enjoyed commercial success in the late 1990s.

They have sold an estimated 25 million records worldwide.
On 2 May 2001, the World Music Awards awarded Vengaboys
with the award for best-selling dance group of the year

    It's the clubbin' extended!

And if there is anyone who has lost that clubbin' feeling - then too bad, they will miss out on some incredibly amazing and thought-provoking lyrics.

I also like this VERSUS choice, I think I would have picked 2 BROTHERS ON THE 4TH FLOOR but they didn't create an original sound.

    Had to Google this one.

It says they had success many countries including the UK, but all I can find is Dreams (Will Come Alive) which spent a week at number 93 in our charts, not sure what they mean about success in the UK.

Having said that, I'm listing to the song now and I would put a months wage on it being something from 2 Unlimted.

The more I listen, the more I'm loving it.

I'm taking my bet off the table - listening to Let Me Be Free and I'm now thinking of SNAP.

I'm surprised the UK missed out on these.

    93?? That's a disgrace!

This may come as a shock to some but I don't have any Vengaboys CDs, and only two 2 Unlimited singles (a few other songs are featured on megamix CDs).
But generally speaking I love most of the 1990s commercial dance music and it's interesting to see how all these different sub-styles intertwine, sometimes it's hard to find out who did it first.

    1. Rocket To Uranus (VB)
An obvious gimmick with a surprising disco touch. A little bit of "I Feel Love" and Boney M's "Nightflight To Venus" - it's amazing that it was never released as a commercial single.
But then again it's from 2010, the music industry had changed a lot and the CD-single became a dying format.

    2. Twilight Zone (2U)
I prefer the instrumental version, sometimes a few "ooh's!" and "aah's!" is enough for a good house track.

    3. Let The Beat Control Your Body (2U)
Yes, it's a "No Limits" copycat but I like it better because it's not so relentless.

    4. Wanna Get Up (2U)
Ray and Anita split up but of course they didn't own the 2 Unlimited name. The producers continued with two female singers and a poppier sound but it wasn't a big success.
This new sound was actually more suitable for the UK market and the single I have also happens to be a UK release, but I don't know if it charted.

    5. Parada De Tettas (VB)
Their first two singles didn't have the Vengaboys signature sound, just like 5, 6, 7, 8 isn't the quintessential STEPS sound.
Parada De Tettas borrows heavily from 3 other hit-singles: Fiesta (The Sunclub) + Equador (Sash!) + Samba De Janeiro (Bellini).
It's interesting that this exotic dance genre preceded the immensely popular Latin pop/house music of the late 90s/early 2000s, but I'm not suggesting that the Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias hits were the result of these eurodance songs.
Still, it's hard to ignore how one style evolved into another one.

    6. Get Ready For This (2U)
2 Unlimited may be a popular eurodance act, but their first single (especially the instrumental version) was a tecno-club hit, meaning that it was underground enough to be played in the clubs. This time I prefer the rap/vocal version.

    7. Shelter For A Rainy Day (2U)
This is new to me (I don't have the album) and I was surprised to find out that they had done a Bee Gees-esque song.

    8. To Brazil (VB)
A very old composition, it's first commercial success being the disco version by the Ritchie Family.
Another producer immediately jumped on the bandwagon and created a similar styled remix for "American Generation".

    So funny.

    9. Jump For Joy (2U)

    10. Faces (2U)
Because I used to like it back then...
