The entertainer Joe Longthorne has died at the age of 64.

Best known as a singer and impressionist, he regularly appeared on TV shows and toured the UK and Europe.

The entertainer Les Dennis tweeted that he was "a supreme talent and a nice man". Cold Feet actor John Thomson said he was a "great entertainer".

A statement on his website said Longthorne, who was born in Hull, died in the arms of his husband Jamie at their Blackpool home.

It said: "Joe died in his bedroom, laying in the arms of his devoted husband of 21 years Jamie, with his rosary beads clutched tight to his chest. He leaves behind sister Ann and brother John."

My Dads late sister in law was a J L devotee and I don't know how many times she saw him live on stage.
I actually thought he was much older than 64

    RIP Mr Longthorne

I know this is a terrible thing to say but I thought he was already dead. I remember a few years ago he was at death's door, I think he had cancer and his chances of survival were very low. So his fans, although they will mourn his passing, they will celebrate the additional years he had that no one thought he would see.

He really was a remarkable talent.

It's a pity he wasn't on tv a bit more in recent years.

    RIP

Joe was a phenomenal talent. His first encounter with cancer happened just as he was making it big in 1989. There were many more battles to come and, inevitably, it took its toll. Joe stoically continued to perform but for many years prior to his passing that big, rich voice had become laboured and mannered. His fans continued to adore him, though, and accounts of his philanthropy (for which he was awarded an OBE) and spontaneous acts of kindness attest to a life well lived in very difficult circumstances.
