I saw the play on Broadway with Vanessa Redgrave and the wonderful, charismstic james earl jones.
    Oh that voice.

I will stick with that to be honest, but good luck to her.
I cant see her in the role as she seems too young to be an ageing southern lady

Thank you for sharing Sarah. I'm glad that Charlene will be doing this play. :)
I wish I could see it. But it seems to be playing in the middle of nowhere. I wonder if it will also be shown anywhere else that's easier to get to.

Good for Charlene :spinning:. And I just noticed that Clarence Gilyard (from "Walker, Texas Ranger") will star along with her! :spinning:

I have no doubt that professional makeup can age both Charlene and Clarence in a way, so that you wouldn't be able to tell their true age!

The town of Portsmouth is located right on the Ohio/Kentucky border - 90 miles from either Columbus, Cincinatti, or Lexinton. Oh, how I wish that I could go to see this play! Not only is the play based on a great story, but I'd love seeing Charlene and Clarence on stage! Oh well, another oppurtunity that I'll have to miss! :(

Please share your experience, if you happen to go, alright?

Is there no way you can go? 90 miles you could get a train or a car or a bike... lol :danc:

Aw sorry I thought you did. 90 miles is nothing by road. That's a shame. Maybe it will tour to somewhere closer!!!

    There was three parts ok:

I thought you lived in one of the named areas you referenced
I regularly drive 90 miles - it only takes 2 hours
Sometimes productions tour and you might be able to see it where you live

I just googled Portsmouth to get an idea of where it was! :D And decided to share the facts! :p

It seems like that it's the arts department at Shawnee State University (in Portsmouth) that is the "production company" in regards to this particular play! I doubt that a tour around the U.S. is in the works! :(

Ah, Charlene. Driving Miss Daisy. Seems like only yesterday she was a teen getting murdered on POLICE WOMAN by a white slave trader. So sweet.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0676482/reference

Ha! She doesn't even include it on her resume! Despite Corey Allen, it's a bad episode. Don't blame her.

Is Charlene a good enough actress to pull off playing a woman that ages from her 70s to her 90s?

I can see your point with Vanessa Redgrave! Her career is very impressive! And she did receive a Tony nomination for her Broadway role in "Driving Miss Daisy" in 2000. :) Also, Vanessa Redgrave comes from the Redgrave family of actors! ;) On top of all her professional accomplishments, she is also the mother of Natasha Richardson! :)

I've only seen the movie, "Driving Miss Daisy". Thus, Miss Daisy will most likely for me always be Jessica Dandy. :) But still ... I would have liked to see Charlene (and Clarence) live on stage! ;)

I'm sure Charlene's a good enough actress to pull off the part. :)
I saw her in a panto in England a few years ago and she was wonderful in it. I know this is much better material than a panto but still pantos are not easy to act in either as the actors needs to interact more with the audience and yet keep a straight face.

Agreed @Karin Schill Ive been in more pantos than I can count and they are hard work. Sometimes 2 shows a day 6 days a week! Keeping that material fresh is hard.

My brother lived in Southampton where you saw Charlene. That's hard work in itself. Awful place.
