Would anyone be interested in digging into the many different music genres? I am thinking we focus on one genre at the time, and each member can post a top list of their favorite songs from this genre. Then we can crown a top 3 by tallying up which songs gets the best score.

    Any interest?

    Great idea, Emelee.

Spookily enough, I was thinking earlier about which tracks I'd choose to make ultimate compilations for certain genres. I didn't really get anywhere with it, but I'd be up for having some fun with different music styles here.

I'm getting quite curious about this one. The more I think about it, the more I realise I'm not sure what falls under what genre.

Sure, it's easy to pop out some disco, or country, maybe heavy metal, but when I think about all the various styles, I start getting a headache.

I threw in the question to Google the difference between Indie & Alternative and this is what I got.

Indie rock and alternative rock are often used interchangeably. Nevertheless, there are some differences between the genres. Initially, the term "indie" was used for British-based music, whilst "alternative" for American. ... Additionally, indie rock has fused to create several new genres and subgenres.

It really is quite the subject, so however this thread turns out, I'm looking forward to watching it grow.

Just a couple genres that came to my mind, but it's very hard to choose. ;)

    - Pop
    - Pop/Rock
    - Rock/Hard Rock
    - Soft Rock
    - Rock 'N' Roll
    - Rhythem & Blues
    - Blues
    - Country (but Country can also be put under the genre Bluegrass music)
    - Disco
    - Dance
    - Jazz
    - Adult contemporary music (this genre can also be put under the genre soft rock and pop songs).
    - Funk
    - Soul
