Nominate 20 songs that were hits from the year 1983.

For the first time in our nomination thread I get to play a part in guessing which member chose the year we are doing.

    :heels:

    But who did choose 1983...?

Posting a link for each nomination would be ideal, that way others can watch/listen and decide whether they want to include that song in their final ten.

If possible (not compulsory) try to avoid posting the videos as this slows down the thread.

Staying with the same format. Once the nominations are complete, I will post the final list and everyone can then check out all the nominated songs and vote for their favourite ten from other member's lists.

To clarify for any newcomers: The idea is, we all nominate songs we like (based on the title/theme of the thread). We then check out each other's nominations and pick a favourite ten from their lists.

20 songs is the maximum, but if you don't have 20 anything less is fine.

Everyone is welcome to join in and nominate 20 songs

    Last day for nominations

    Thursday 27th October

You may want to re-check the release date of some those songs.
If You Leave Me Now is from 1976, Jealous Guy is from 1981 and Twilight Zone is from 1982. Don't trust every YT description.

I myself never trust YT descriptions, but I thought that covers were admissible (JG is one) and Wikipedia enlists all singles and LP´s. Sorry if IYLMN belonged to a compilation...I´d rather have this than songs I don´t know or like at all...:bag:

I'm confused with your way of thinking.

What do you mean admissible? Roxy Music had a hit with Jealous Guy in 1981.

If you click onto the singles they list the year they were released and a hit. Are you looking at a wiki page that states Jealous Guy was a song from 1983?

We're just nominating songs that were hits or released in the year 1983, that doesn't include songs from compilation albums, sorry.

You don't have to list 20 , you can have any amount as long as it doesn't go over 20.

I've noticed another 4 songs that are not from 1983.
Of course I would never instruct anyone to remove that title from the list (or to replace it with another song) but it would be weird to have a winning song from 1982 or 1984 for the 1983 thread.
The challenge is always part of the fun, and this is no different than searching for titles with an instrument in the title.

I hope Toni and Emelee can find some other songs they like, and let's not forget it's going to be even harder for those who haven't nominated yet because most of the big hits have already been nominated. Especially by me because I intend to win this thread:popcorn:

I didn´t mean it as it sounded :bag:. It´s just too complicated to make the nominations when you come from a country from Spain, and especially from that time (early 80´s). I´ll be happy to vote for the 10 nominated songs, and of course make lists for any movie-related thread.

PS: Miss Piggy says that she misses the 1.589 pics of hers she posted on the "other" forum...:re:

This has been a lovely, nostalgic thread for me. With so many favourites already chosen I'm really looking forward to the vote. But it's going to be hard to pick just ten.

Anyway, here are my picks from '83. I'll hazard a guess that our resident Eighties Girl (don't ya know) @Barbara Fan chose this cracker of a year.

    Now - Carpenters
Karen's last recording, and one of her most beautiful. It's from the year 1983 and has appeared on a Carpenters greatest hits album, meeting the criteria for this round!

She Works Hard For The Money - Donna Summer
    Once heard, never forgotten.

    Burning Up - Madonna
    Seedy, slutty perfection.

And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going - Koffie
    Gotta love Eighties dance covers.

    Under Attack - ABBA
Recorded in '82, it got a worldwide release in '83. If anyone cares to nominate Thank You For The Music, that also finally got released as a single in 1983!

Theme from “Harry’s Game” - Clannad
    Haunting.

    Gold - Spandau Ballet
    My favourite Spandau song.

Let’s Stay Together - Tina Turner
    A very classy cover indeed.

    Club Tropicana - Wham!
One of those songs that takes me right back to a place and time.

How Am I Supposed To Live Without You - Laura Branigan
Composed by Michael Bolton, this original version is far superior to his later rendition. Her hair's better too.

Islands In The Stream - Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers
Bee Gees go country. What could be more perfect?!

Jump (For My Love) - The Pointer Sisters
Beats the pants off any cover.

Read ‘Em And Weep - Barry Manilow
    Manilow does Meatloaf!

    Fireball - Bob James
    Mellow and magical.

The Wind Beneath My Wings - Lee Greenwood
Possibly my favourite version (but don't tell Bette).

I’ve Got A Crush On You - Linda Ronstadt
Charming and smooth. A really nice version.

The Summer Knows - Rosemary Clooney
My favourite vocal version of this song.

Have You Ever Seen The Rain? - Bonnie Tyler
Faster Than The Speed is rock perfection, embodied perfectly by this great track.

Relax - Frankie Goes To Hollywood
It's from the year 1983. And it was a hit. So it ticks both boxes.

Dancing Endlessly - The Kids From “Fame” feat. Debbie Allen and Glyn Turman
It's from the year 1983 and later appeared on the Ultimate Fame greatest hits album.

    Now - Carpenters
She Works Hard For The Money - Donna Summer
    Burning Up - Madonna
And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going - Koffie
    Under Attack - ABBA
Theme from “Harry’s Game” - Clannad
    Gold - Spandau Ballet
Let’s Stay Together - Tina Turner
    Club Tropicana - Wham!
How Am I Supposed To Live Without You - Laura Branigan
Islands In The Stream - Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers
Jump (For My Love) - The Pointer Sisters
Read ‘Em And Weep - Barry Manilow
    Fireball - Bob James
The Wind Beneath My Wings - Lee Greenwood
I’ve Got A Crush On You - Linda Ronstadt
The Summer Knows - Rosemary Clooney
Have You Ever Seen The Rain? - Bonnie Tyler
Relax - Frankie Goes To Hollywood
Dancing Endlessly - The Kids from Fame

Maybe stating 'hits from 1983' wasn't the best idea because I think people are getting confused.

The Carpenters never had a hit in 1983 and when I checked out this song, it doesn't appear to have been released from her album.

Further investigation does imply it was released as a single in America, but again this was in '84 and failed to chart.

    Relax didn't chart until Jan '84, so wasn't a hit in '83

Kids from Fame only had one hit in '83 and it was "Friday Night (Live Version)
