Hey guys, I hope you don't mind me coming to your board and starting a topic
Although I'm an Knots fan, I'm really happy that they will be making Dallas into a movie. I think thats awesome and I'll be there watching it with the rest of you.

I have a neat question to ask. How do you think the movie will be written. Do you think it will be very tongue-in-cheek and campy (a la Charlie's Angel)?? Or will it be a serious movie (a la Mission Impossible)???

I have always felt that if any TV Show is going to make it to the movies with SOME SORT of resemblance to the original, then it has to be campy. It worked for the Brady Bunch, it worked for Charlies Angel, it could work for Dallas.

But then I heard David Jacobs' comments and it "seems" that he is taking this too seriously, he's talking about Enron and big coorporations and I'm scared that its going to be made as a seriuos movie, which might NOT resemble our Dallas at all (ie. JR, Pam, Bobby, SE etc.)

    What do you guys think???

Answer to kl4me. I think Dallas at the beginnnings was very serious and dramatic. I would like to see the movie that style, so I agree with Jacobs. I hated the exaggerated humour of the last series.

Dallas was a show for adults at prime time!

Those shows you mentioned were just for kids. The best movie ever made on a classic TV show was "The Fugitive".

Interesting question: what is this movie going to be LIKE? Is it just about the retro-mania of the last years?
Although many people think of Dynasty and Dallas as camp, I wouldn't choose this for the new movie because it's too close to comedy and that would ridicule the original series ( a la the mini "FRESNO") and we don't want that to happen, do we?

It's also not going to be a "feel good"-reunion movie; only interesting for the fans and with all respect to the original cast, we're talking a big screen movie here so that's not an option either.

Some people suggested a remake but that sounds more like a two-part television movie to me. Of course WE would like it, but the major public...?

Dallas was about a family and the storyline was focused on the characters. Turning 10 or 12 years of drama into a 2 hours showcase? Impossible.

I think the best approach for this movie would be an Arthur Hailey-style.
    1. Something terrible is going to happen to the Ewing business because of a powerful and ruthless enemy. (politician?)
JR and Bobby struggle to save the Ewing company (oil or energy, whatever) with JR of course making things even worse.
    2. The background story: the family.
Mainly about Sue Ellen, former Miss Texas, who had great expectations about being the important Mrs Ewing. After years of abuse/humiliation she's VERY bittered, often hysterical and addicted to drugs and alcohol. In order to get even with JR, she gets involved with THE enemy, but when she realises what is going on and what she has done (helping this enemy), it's too late and she gets killed. Yes, she should be an extremely tragic person.
    3. The lovestory: Bobby and Pam.
They should work together for Ewing Oil/Energy and find each other at the end of the movie.
The Ewing-Barnes connection is not relevant anymore.
    4. The others: Ray and Lucy, representing the wealthy Southfork lifestyle. Ray as Sue Ellen's lover and Lucy as the young rich bitch, making life hell for Sue Ellen and seducing Ray.

Last thing: I really think this movie needs BIG names. Ray Liotta as JR is a good choice and as for me: Catherine Zeta-Jones as Sue Ellen.

OK, for those who don't like these suggestions, start the attack!
