Yep. Imagine every episode of original Dallas with just the key cast and NOBODY else. Would be weird no?

Totally. A bit like Big Brother only nobody leaves Southfork.

Yes, Dallas has a rich history from which to draw characters who are actually related to the Ewings, so first bring in Bobby's son Lucas and Ray's daughter Margaret, instead of Ryland's daughter Emma and Elena's brother Drew.

Bringing in Margaret Krebbs means they can bring back Ray and Donna.

I'm guessing the majority of fans are not too interested in the Ramos', but I could be wrong.

This is very very exciting. Almost too exciting to hold onto. Val and Gary have kids so presumably it's Betsy and Bobby , John Ross and Christopher's cousins, who may be introduced .

Abby Ewing is great tv period so even a cameo scene would be fascinating. This new show could run and run and it will need to replenish the old and young characters so opening it up to include KNOTS LANDING maes sense, hell the penultimate ep of this season was practically like an episode of Knots!

I'm falling in love with new Dallas on the channel 5 run , watching it on a proper tv is magical , I can finally ate it all in!

I'm not sure how Gary and Val could even fit into Dallas now, since KL never acknowledged the dream season....I guess Gary could ignore it on a Dallas appearance, but if KL gets a reboot, then the dream season would either have to be ignored, or have some silly explanation. Also, with Ted Shackelford doing Y&R, there could be a scheduling conflict. But introducing Bobby and Betsy, Lucy's brother and sister, could work, if done right...only change Bobby's name to Eddie Ewing to avoid confusion with his uncle,

And God help us if Cidre gets to do a KL reboot, she'd mess up a lot of stuff for that show too, only David Jacobs should do a Knots reboot.
In this house, a queen beats a straight any day of the week!!!

Great. Very good choice of Cidre and her team. If it will be Gary&Val and Abyy (like mentioned in an interview) I'm thrilled.
Solid characters to work with and all of them very accomplished actors!

The last fight Valene vs. JR was 30 years ago. Hopefully she offers him a tuna sandwich again

...And maybe HAPPY DAYS, THE LOVE BOAT, THE INCREDIBLE HULK and B&B, just mix everything!

Speaking of B&B, Cidre should hire that Ken Doll Ronn Moss now that he is free, he is 'stellar' actor material and he would complement the current Ken Doll collection, he could be TNT's Jeff Farraday! Never mind that the character is dead, we certainly appreciate a good retcon!

Considering Gary and Val weren't on Dallas a lot, you have a fresh slate in terms of what you could explore in terms of Gary's involvement with the Southfork side of things. Throw in Bobby & Betsy and Abby and you have lots of potential. Abby would make sense as a love interest for JR. I think he's too old to have a hot young thing, but Abby was his former fling and she's a schemer so together they could be interesting.

I also like that this will hopefully put Knots Landing on their radar. I want that show to return as well.

I'll be interested in seeing what type of relationship will be written for J.R. and Gary. In the "old days" they were mutually estranged and bitter. Sure hope the proper background will be established, one we are familiar with.

Many of you are reacting to this news as if Cidre plans on making them principal characters. Just because she got permission to use them doesn't really mean that much. She might just drop them in randomly like she did with Lucy and Ray, for brief cameos. Heck, she may have only requested permission to gin up some buzz among KL fans, with no intention of actually writing them in. Maybe she just wanted to keep her options open with regards to referencing KL characters.

It really doesn't do any good to jump to conclusions about the situation when so little is known.

In the original series, Cliff also said any times that the "Ewings destroyed Digger", which all of us who watched "The Early Years" know itīs not true. Mr. Barnes was always exaggerating everything...

Guys ... just because TNT was given the green light to use KL characters - it's doesn't mean for Dallas. Yes, Gary and Val will likely make an appearance in Season 2 but if Dallas Season 2 continues to do well ... a Knot's Landing 2.0 is being talked about as a new series for TNT. Bobby, Betsy, Meg and others playing the new generation roles and having some of the originals back.

Yes, that is a concern, mostly for Abby. I only want Abby because they have turned JR into a fool again on the show and he's no longer effective. I want to see a shrewd evil villain on the show who actually wins- if they turn her into a loser like JR, I'd rather them not use her.

Val would be hard to ruin no matter what they do to her- she has been just about everything on the original show, she went totally bonkers twice and she's such a odd duck, about anything can be justified with her. And Joan is such a great actress, I think she can spin straw into gold if she had to.

^ What Snarky said. And Daniel, I do realize what you're saying, but we don't know anything about anything. All we'll be doing is speculating until probably October and November when they start filming.

Permission to use those characters, it's not going to be the entire cast of Knots Landing. We are not going to see Richard Avery, which is a pity.
