Rah Rah! Like an A.I. Judge... Nicki Minaj Joins Idol
Nicki Minaj -- and her multiple personas -- will be joining Mariah Carey at the judges' table on American Idol, two sources confirm to Us Weekly exclusively.
"I'm not sure the deal is completely done yet, but yes, she is definitely doing it," one insider reveals. "A few more slight things to sign off on but it is happening."
A second source says the "Super Bass" rapper, 29, is "100% confirmed to judge American Idol." Reps for FOX and Minaj had no comment when contacted by Us.
On July 23, five-time Grammy Award winner Mariah Carey confirmed she will appear as a judge on American Idol next season. "As a singer, songwriter and producer, it's going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with American Idol," the singer said in a statement. "I can't wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show which is a massive global phenomenon."

Props to Fox. As much as I love JLo, she wasn't enough to draw me in three times a week, and I wasn't planning to watch the coming season with Mariah. But I will now that Nicki's there!

My celebrity news source (the one that you do not like PTG), said that Mariah Carey threw a fit when she heard that Nicki M. was joining. Apparently Mariah wanted to be the only female judge on the show.

As much as I dislike your celebrity news source, I won't dismiss this claim. It sounds like a very Mariah thing to do.

TV News: American Idol gossip – When producers called Mariah Carey and told her Nikki Minaj was probably coming aboard as a judge, she hung up on them. Then she called producers back and threatened to quit. Time is running out, Idol ratings are slipping every year, it’s a mess and the American Idol producers have to be pulling out their hair. …
PTG, I really like listening to him - he literally makes my car ride to work more joyous. I am thinking of starting a thread for him in Celebrity Scuttlebutt and posting his daily blogs (which are just the written form of his morning podcast -minus the popquiz question).

He didn't even spell Nicki correctly. My distain for him continues.
But I think Nicki will be a bigger draw than Mariah. I read that Keith Urban is in the running to join. Mariah, Nicki, and Keith would balance each other very well, and attract a wide audience. At any rate, I'd tune in with Nicki as a judge.

Seems likely no matter what given their recent turnover rate.

J-Lo wasn't worth what they were paying her, IMO. Neither was Steven Tyler.

Figure I'd stick this here: Katy Perry turned down $20,000,000 ($20 Million). Two million more than Mariah is going to make.
Good choice on Perry's part.

Don't forget Randy Jackson - I'm pretty sure he's still judging. My celeb source said Mariah stipulated that R Jackson stay involved with the show (even though FOX probably wanted to can him too).
