Default The murders of the cartel

...in Season 13 (per DVD count)

I haven't seen this in a long time. I liked the idea but hated the execution (puns intended).

How should the plotline have unfolded?

Are you confusing the Cartel with the plot involving Clayton's former business partners?

Were they? That's how long I've seen it -- I just remember they were people we didn't know.

It's funny how bad writing doesn't stick with you, the details.

I recall Jordan Lee's dubious murder. I don't remember the destiny of Marilee, Andy Bradley, and whoever else was in the cartel at the bitter end.

Jordan Lee was shot to death in France after making a phone call in a telephone booth -- an unbefitting end to such a good character. Andy Bradley and Wade Luce sold their oil companies and were out of the series. Marilee Stone still held ownership of her oil company but was simply never referred to again. Thus her exit. Those were the essential three cartel members, although in the earlier episodes it was alluded to that there were more (i.e. Jed Ames and Willie Joe Garr). There were a bunch of them in JR's office when he was selling the southeast asian oil leases in Wheeler Dealer but most were not identified. I suspect that one of them was Seth Stone but, again, he was not named. I always thought that he would have been the one who asked JR, "Why're you finally letting us in." Of course, you all remember that Seth committed suicide after the wells were nationalized and then Marilee ran the company.

The season 13 plot was about former business partners of Claytons (which read like a bad episode of a later season of Murder she Wrote)..gathered to read the will of the most cantankerous and tight fisted one of the bunch. each heir died as they inherited the wealth, eventually it turned out that he faked his death..but then wound up dead himself... the murderer??

    SPOILER.................

    Clayton's sister, Lady Jessica.

At one time, I think all the lights went off, when they came on, someone was dead in the fish tank. At the time, I thought it was an interesting development and wondered where it might all lead, I will willing to give it a chance, but it didn't really go anywhere.

I've seen this story arc two, maybe three, times. And it still doesn't stick with me.

It is very clearly stated by Marilee Stone in the 2 hour season opener of the 1989-90 season that she is retiring from the Oil Business. It is even big enough to be part of the recap on episode 3 of that season (counting the season premiere as 2 episodes). "If I am going to get out of the Oil Business, I'm going out with a bang," or something to that effect. She was later seen in another episode in a pool scene with J.R. getting into it with clothes on. The characters was phased out after that. So there was some resolution to her character.
