Default SE as Governor: Does she need a husband?

I was wondering, now that SE is running for Governor of Texas...
Would people actually accept/vote for a single woman or would this be an issue? Just how conservative is Texas in that regard?

And if so, who could it be?

    1. JR (for obvious dysfunctional reasons)
    2. Cliff (political adviser and financier husband)
    3. Ryland (don't think that he is an option really, but well...he is there and he is power hungry)
    4. Don Lockwood (he could do the ads for her campaign and they could explain why they divorced in the first place)
    5. Dusty (the return of Lusty Dusty)
    6. Younger man (maybe a campaign manager or something)
    7. Other (please state)

I do not like this storyline. Sue Ellen should have a) been still married to Lockwood, b) a wealthy divorcee making keen investments, or c) married to another rich powerful Dallas man.

One of the grievous failures in Season 1 is that they did not resolve issues from the past, such as what is Sue Ellen's marital status and what happened to Don Lockwood. All it would have taken is a single sentence of dialogue, and the issue would have been cleared up. Did the writers even know that Sue Ellen was married to Lockwood? Probably not.

I am a sucker for anything having to do with the Sue Ellen/Dusty love story, who are my all-time favorites. However, sadly that shipped has sailed. In the original Dallas they should have pushed this story much further, especially since Miss Ellie was married to Clayton.

They could have developed something between Ryland and Sue Ellen, but they insisted on drawing a cartoon instead. I say cartoon, because they went over the top in painting Ryland as a villain. If they had written him as a more well-rounded character with an edge, then he could have been a viable option for Sue Ellen.

Obviously, Ryland is still hung up on Ann. I only mentioned him because I know that some would miss him in the poll...

SE would have to be absolutely desperate to shack up with that blimp Billy...or seriously in need of money!

I think she is great as a single woman. I love watching JR salivate when he's in her company and probably thinking, "Damn, and to think I never appreciated this woman. I want a do over! Boy, what a gal, man what a woman"

Maybe they bring one of her old lovers back. Don't think that she would want to be with either JR or Cliff as it is now. JR hasn't changed much, he still is rotten to the core and she wouldn't want Cliff when he is on his revenge trip against the family...again.

    Re: Quiche

Lockwood would be interesting, there could be some unfinished business between them, we don't know why they divorced. McShane is a huge star now, he isn't as old as JR and Cliff, which is important because both look so old now compared to SE. Question is: Would he do it?

JR hated Don's guts, a confrontation would be interesting because 'The Limey' wasn't afraid of JR. Loved how JR constantly called him 'Limey'.

I just looked up Ian McShane. He is 70 years old - almost same age as Linda Gray. And he's in feature films. So why would he do a TNT show? I don't think so.

What I really think is that Cidre and crew didn't watch Dallas enough to know that Sue Ellen had married Lockwood. You had see the episode when J.R. heard by a phone call that she had married Lockwood. If you didn't watch that episode, then you didn't know.

I still think that it's weird that SE is the only woman on Dallas who is not in a relationship. She looks fantastic for an older woman and the Governor storyline didn't work in that it didn't showcase the character.

Pretending to be a Dallas-newbie: All we know is that she is running for Governor and has a son with JR but we don't know what makes her tick. She doesn't have a 'Dallas life' of her own, she is defined by her relationship with other characters but at the moment, even that is only a sketch at best.

Ann Richards was elected governor of Texas in 1990, and she was a divorcee. Prior to that, she served as State Treasurer. Interestingly, Ms. Richards was a recovering alcoholic at the time she was elected, so there's a few similarities to Sue Ellen. I don't know if the show's producers have studied up on Texas political history, but I doubt they'll make SE being single an issue.

That said, I would like to see a good love interest for Sue Ellen.

Does Sue Ellen Need a husband or love interest ? NO. I don't want her to Need one, but it's fine if she wants a man in her life. I like this new image of Sue Ellen and in today's world the sky is the limit. You go girl!!!

If she falls in love good for her. Otherwise just keep her single and don't force her into a pairing for the sake of it. I hate the line of thinking that women need men to validate their lives. Women can be strong and INDEPENDENT. Sue Ellen has been married many times already and it has never worked out. She should just show the men what they are missing and stay single.

I wouldn't mind it if she married Dusty. Politicians usually make sure they are married, it makes them seem more stable, which is why I am kinda surprised it wasn't a scene or at least talked about- but as LisaKay mentioned, it has happened- so it must not be a big deal anymore- but I'm sure even in Ann's campaign, it was a subject that was probably talked about and debated within her own circle.

I voted JR, but I also like her single, but she doesn't seem really happy, but she seems strong, until she made a mess, and got blackmailed by Ryland.

Okay, so far most people have voted "single"....among the other options, JR is favourite, which would the obvious way:
They could hook her up with JR, also to avoid bringing someone else in, who will take up screen time. They just would have to flesh out the JR/SE thing a little more. But JR certainly isn't a 'healthy' choice, he definitely would mess up her personal life and campaign. But that's also kind of interesting, IMO because it's messy...

Found it interesting that LG said in an interview that her favourite TNT Dallas scene was the one with JR at the CBB. Sounded as if she would like to work with LH more...
