Val & Gary Ewing
You almost think they need Afton.

Vicente Cano
Afton
Lucy - but with more material
Ray should come back to live on the ranch.

I'd like these people to return:
Afton: Because of the Rebecca-being-Cliff's-daughter-storyline.
Gary: With or without Val, with would be nicer. Gary could have a lot of storylines, because he is J.R. and Bobby's brother. He's stronger now, maybe tougher than ever and this time he's able to beat J.R.
Lucas: Lucas is Bobby's biological son. He could help John Ross trying to destroy Christopher. Why? Lucas wouldn't give a damn about the land, because he never grew up there. He was raised in Europe. And he could feel betrayed by Bobby, because he made him feel he didn't care about him (because he hardly contacted him). He would be jealous of Chris, because he did get Bobby's love and attention, not even being Bobby's real son. Maybe John Ross can get him to Texas to help him, a la Dynasty's Alexis getting Ben Carrington from Australia to hurt Blake.
Lucy: Give her a daughter. They can be in a hotter-than-my-daughter-relationship. Daughter wants Lucy to act her age, but Lucy still wants attention. She has problems with getting older. Mother and daughter do love each other, but can't make their relationship work. John Ross knows about this and uses Lucy's daughter to get what he wants (Lucy's/Gary's mineral rights). Hires some georgeous men to give her attention, but doesn't know they are trying to force her into prostitution. Will it come that far? Will Lucy find out and does she blame John Ross?
Ray: Maybe he's still with Jenna, maybe not. (Maybe hire another actress to play Jenna if he is.) If Lucas is coming back, being an ass and helping John Ross, Bobby can blame Ray for not giving Lucas a decent growing up. Ray takes this as an insult and it hurts their relationship. Maybe Ray never felt comfortable with Lucas being Bobby's son, although he tried very hard to be a good father. Lucas probably felt this too, which caused him and Ray never get close.
If Jenna comes back, then where's Charlie? She must know Elena too, because Elena and Carmen came to live on Southfork in 1987. Charlie could come back being a beautiful young woman. She and Elena hate each other for reasons unknown. It all started when they met all those years ago. Maybe Charlie was jealous, because she was friends with both John Ross and Christopher... untill Elena showed up and the boys gave her more attention?
And I'd like a closure to the Pam-storyline. If she's dead: ok. If she's not: tell us what happened.

Afton - I normally wouldn't say her yet except now there's the Rebecca storyline. Afton's gonna show up PISSED when she finds out whats going on.
Lucas Wade - Not much back history to screw up, but it'd screw with Christopher having Bobby's real/natural son show up!
Katherine Wentworth - maybe she's blackmailing Cliff into this whole scheme.

In order of preference:
Lucy: I don't know that I necessarily want to see a Lucy-centric storyline, but I do want to see much more of her. She now has the potential to be the kind of colorful character "Dallas" needs and is missing, and brings much needed humor.
Marilee: Same as Lucy.
Afton: With her connection to Pamela Rebecca and Cliff, she's the most obvious to return. Even though she could be a tramp, she was a decent person -- I thinks he would be appalled at her daughter's behavior and furious at Cliff for using their child to further his schemes.
Lucas: More "young" blood. My preference would be for Jenna to have recently passed away, causing Lucas to seek out his "fathers". Christopher, already a mess, is jealous of Bobby's biological son.
Sly: Just for old time's sake. Maybe JR places her at Ewing Energies to assist John Ross.
Donna: Maybe helping Sue Ellen's campaign.
Ray: Poor old Ray. I don't think he brings much of interest to the show, but if Lucas and/or Donna show up then maybe there's some potential there.
Katherine: A longshot, and I really don't expect the series to use her, but she is probably the most tantalizing of all of the old "Dallas" plots; she could also be used to bring closure to Pam's story, since I think anyone expecting VP to return is in a state of delusion.

Maybe the kill off Afton to avoid bringing too many old people in. I mean, they have to give these people screen time! There can only be so many old people on a show like that which clearly is geared towards a young audience...

Rumors and speculation are that many of those people are coming back next season

I like to see Sly come in. Who better to help John Ross steal EE from Christopher and Elena.

I agree, I don't think too many oldies will be coming back. They are trying to shift it to the new generation, but there could be more oldies in brief storylines connected with Bobby/JR/Sue Ellen.

Oops I forgot Lucas and Margaret

Except she's really not old in the way J.R., Cliff and Sue Ellen are. She's more a contemporary of Lucy and Ann, and she's kept up her looks and figure. They don't need her in a hugely pivotal role, but as she's Rebecca's mother, she really should turn up sooner or later. There's much more story potential if Afton is still alive.
In addition to Afton, the only other Dallas vet I really need to see show up is Gary. I just would like to see all three Ewing brothers united again, and I'd like to know what he's up to (we don't need to see Val, just say she's back home in Knots Landing) They do need to bring closure to Pam at some point during the series, but I don't have a strong desire to see her, to be honest, although I wouldn't be against it. But because I know Victoria Principal would never return to the show full time, if they were to bring her back for a short sting, I think that should be a final season thing.
Lucas showing up would be nice, but they could save that for a later season if they want. It does need to happen eventually, there's just too much obvious story there. In which case, Ray and Jenna would probably be necessary although Priscilla Presley is really just too creepy looking. I am one of that minority that is fine with them just bringing back Morgan Fairchild for the role. I also think they could probably have had her died in the intervening years and there not be too much story lost. The conflict would be Christopher and Lucas' dual role as Bobby's son (the one he raised and the biological one) and Bobby and Ray's dual role as Lucas' father (the one who raised him and the biological one), you don't really need Jenna for that. Alternatively, they could just keep her in Europe. However, this is about the only story that I do think they need to make Ray prominent for. Otherwise, I think he's best put off to pasture with occasional cameos.
Sly would be fun, and she doesn't need much. Just make her John Ross's secretary at Ewing Energies. Really, you could put her in the kind of role they had for Bum in the latter part of this season - working for John Ross, but secretly reporting to J.R.
And, really, that's about it. I don't need to see Donna or Carter or Jeremy or Punk and Mavis or Dusty or Katherine or anything like that. Lucy's important enough that she probably should still show up from time to time, but I honestly don't need her role expanded much more than it has been. I also don't think there's as much role for ancillary third-generation Ewings like Margaret or Bobby and Betsy as some people think.

I understand what your saying but I was thinking of them in the context of meaningful supporting roles; after all Bum; Mitch Lobell and Lou were hardly young and were all given decent screen time. For that matter the could offset the use of some of the originals by hiring young secretaries; lawyers; dectectives etc...

I would love to see Afton come back.
Also, Pam Ewing!!!! She could add so much to all story lines. From how Christopher and Bobby would react to her return and to see how she would react to the Barnes' side!

Yeah, they should make a lot of their newer characters younger. I thought it was weird that the only two characters who died were also their only two young supporting characters - Veronica and Tommy. Meanwhile middle-aged characters like Vicente, Harris, Bum and Frank all keep on trucking.
Okay, Harris had the be the age he is to be Ann's ex, and Vicente wouldn't work if he was like 20. But Frank's role actually calls for a younger man than he is, and Bum could have been any age. Same with the lawyers, Mitch Lobell had to be older to have been a longtime employee and to have a son who could be used, but Lou could have easily been younger.

Jeremy Wendell is at the top of my list.. they should have made him head of Exxon this season..big missed opportunity.
Gary & Val..plus more for Ray to do.
Marilee Stone,Holly Harwood - (we also need some new cartel members with them)
Lucas
James (not because i like James but because he is J.R.'s eldest son and we need some kind of answer to why he isnt in the thivk of it)

Afton! Makes total sense to bring her in now, and she could help to make Cliff less of a bastard.
I never thought I'd say this but I agree that something needs to be done with the Pam character. The anticipation of seeing her in the finale got to me, I admit, and I was sorely let down when she wasn't in it, even though I knew that VP wouldn't appear. Just the thought of her appearing was exciting and made it more clear than ever that her character needs resolution, one way or the other.
I never thought that I would enjoy the younger generation as much as I do. That said, I see a real void where Lucas is concerned. There are so many possibilties of conflict, fighting, manipulation should Bobby's other son return.
Margaret could be an interesting character, with the right casting.

they dont need to swamp season 2 with alot of old characters. Gary and Val would be a nice touch. Or Donna. Perhaps she and Ray could reunite.
