Default Dallas Fanzine's "In Memoriam" Photo Gallery

First let me say - I love the Dallas Fanzine web-site. It is a treasure trove of pictures, interviews, and all things Dallas. The folks that run it do an awesome job - but....if I may be allowed to be the slightest bit nit-picky.....their "In Memoriam" photo gallery needs to be reorganized. Actors just appear throughout in random, starting with bit players like J.R.'s old secretary Louella and ending with original cast member Jim Davis. I think it would be more impactful if they listed the actors by their characters importance to the show first, and secondary characters and bit players after. Especially as it pertains to the main stars of the show who appeared in the opening credits. It really would then give more of a sense of loss as a tribute to the show in general.

For Example: Jim Davis should be first, followed by Barbara Bel Geddes, Donna Reed, Howard Keel and Dack Rambo.
Next...the "also starring" and parental/familial cast: David Wayne (Digger 1), Keenan Wynn (Digger 2), Aunt Maggie, Patricia Shepard, Jessica Montford, Aunt Lil, Mickey Trotter, and Dave Culver.
Followed by end credits regulars: Jordan Lee, Harv Smithfield, Leo Wakefield, Jackie Dugan, Louella, Harry McSween, Vaughn Leland, Harlan Danvers
Then bit players like Dave Stratten, Eugene Bullock, etc., etc.
and finally writers, producers, directors and crew such as Lenoard Katzman, Phil Capice, Arthur Bernard Lewis, etc.

I know it's a silly observation to make, and I mean no disrespect to any of the deceased cast, or minimize their contribution to the show, but ranking them by order of importance to the show does give a more impactful sense of what's been lost over the years than the way they are listed now.

I love that section on dallasfanzine! Brings back a lot of fond memories of each person associated with the picture. I remember being so shocked that the actor who played Mickey had passed so early. I think that the whole thing is beautifully arranged, and sometimes no meaning is meaningful, if that makes sense. Each passing is extremely sad, but sometimes I think the viewer needs a second to place the person or to gather their thoughts. Some passings were well known, such as Jim Davis, Barbara Bel Geddes and Dack Rambo. But some of the others (Mickey and Dave Culver I believe) were unexpected, and I need a second to focus my thoughts. The memorium section is beautifully done as it is. Garry if you read this my 13 year old son frequents your site quite often! Well done

I knew about Timothy Patrick Murphy and Dack Rambo - who was the other one to die because of AIDS?

I believe it was Tom Fuccello, who played Dave Culver. I just looked it up.

I just watched the memorium section again, and continued to be impressed with the quality of the site. (No, Garry's not paying me . This section is unfortunately neccessary, but was done with a lot of grace. It doesn't rush the images, which really allows the viewers to reflect upon each actor. Wow, Dallas really was the perfect example of a great ensamble cast. While some actors only played bit parts, ultimately they each contributed in their own way to the success of the show. I can't think of too many shows with such excellent casting. Nowadays the actors being cast would all have abs of steel, hair extensions (distracting!) and or the perfect smile. A lot of these character actors wouldn't fit the bill by today's standards, but Dallas got the parts absolutely right.

Yes, I was wondering about that myself. I did notice that Paul Sorenson (Andy Bradley) was missing as well. Plus, of all people, I don't see Leonard Katzman on there either - and he's probably the most important one because without him, there would be no Dallas. I wonder how many others are missing?

The actress who played Louella is dead? What happened there? She couldn't have been too old.
Yes, JR. The answer is yes. You were the love of my life!
