I would not roll out the red carpet for Mickey Trotter either.
My avatar is an autograph of Coronation Street's Philip Lowrie (Dennis Tanner, an original character) which he personalised for me.

I liked Mickey Trotter. He was a breath of fresh air as a character, constantly bucking authority. His character wasn't of the depth of the established characters and some of the regulars at that time, but he added an element that wasn't there at that time.

Sheree J. Wilson was kinda wooden, and after Morgan Fairchild, Francine Tacker was unimpressive as Jenna.

If they had kept the character of April as she was portrayed in season 10, she might have been OK. The overly quick transformation into goody two-shoes was a bit lacking in credibility.

Peter Wyngarde also praised Joel as an actor and said that when he was offered the Jason King series, he tried to persuade the production team to allow Joel Fabiani to return as Stewart Sullivan and be his partner for the whole series. Leslie Darbon (who replaced Terry Nation [who had been headhunted by Brian Clemens to script edit most of the Thorson episodes of The Avengers] and wrote three episodes) expressed regret at not giving Fabiani [who he thought to be a very good actor] meatier material to work with. One of his scripts (The Perfect Operation, which at one stage nearly became a film treatment) had a downbeat ending that reduced Fabiani's character to anger and tears after solving a case, which then results in the intelligence services murdering the person he investigated.

Howard Keel as Clayton, his legendary pre Dallas work aside, he was sullen, bitchy, meddlesome and bullying. Not to mention dull. It was the writing of course, but he appearances served no purpose. He couldn't act as an authority figure to replace Jock so why have him there...HE should have played Jason Ewing.

I think Steve Forrest would have been a good Jason.

George Baker said that Steve Forrest was a wooden actor (working with Forrest, Sue Lloyd, and Freddie Jones in Terry Nation & Dennis Spooner's So Dark The Night, directed by Freddie Francis). Director Cyril Frankel was brought on to The Baron to ensure Steve Forrest gave a more relaxed performance because producer Monty Berman (later producer of Department S and along with Cyril Frankel and Dennis Spooner he cast Joel Fabiani as Stewart Sullivan) thought that Steve's performance was too stiff and they couldn't get anything out of him, causing production to be suspended (the other reason was Berman's concern over script quality from Terry Nation. Two of the completed episodes, filmed back to back were copies of three episodes of The Saint...with dialogue lifts), following completion of the the eighth episode, The Persuaders, in late October 1965, Production resumed in late November 1965. George Baker worked with Forrest from mid-late June 1966 and he claimed that Steve's brother, Dana Andrews was a much better actor, even though a drunk.

..and George Baker had contempt? Well, Cyril Frankel thought Steve Forrest was suffering from nerves and encouraged more "natural" performances from him. Forrest and Frankel became friends as a result.

Debra Lynn Beaumont... what's the actress name anyways? That's when I said "okay, the end of Dallas. No one will want another season after this"

Like the rest of the Beaumont clan, she shouldn't have been on Dallas.

Yes, I agree. But there's something really really odd and BAD about Debra Lynn Beaumont. Not just the character, the way she was introduced and the way she quickly left, but the actress. When I was watching it, Dallas seemed being trapped in some twilight zone or alternative world... At least Vanessa and James had (bad) plots and story development. Debra Lynn was... what? An excuse to put James away from Dallas? That I'll buy but WHY the baby??

I've been watching all of the old seasons (up until 10) and I begrudgingly have been rewatching the Dream Season- and Dack Rambo, he's just terrible. I thought about going through every scene of his and taking a screen shot of the precise spot where he does his laugh- it's probably in just about every scene he did on the show- he even does his laugh a minute after he's told Pam has been kidnapped.

"Pam's been kidnapped, but I'll just add my laugh here..."

He's never believable the entire season, he's really awful. I tried to read some interviews with him, and there was one on Ultimate Dallas- he was very troubled this season and admits it took it's toll on him, although I think he was terrible even before the Priscilla plot went sour. I'll let him defend himself, but I don't agree with him- he was consistently bad from the beginning.

"We were a few weeks into the show," Rambo said, "I noticed that the story line was veering off in another direction and I thought: 'What the hell is this?' All of a sudden my relationship with Priscilla (Presley, who played Bobby's girlfriend) was going right down the tubes.

"I knew there were whispers going on behind my back. Either 'He's gay,' or 'He's this or. . . .' And I thought, 'What the hell did I do?' People were just assuming. And people didn't really know anything about my private life."
