Default The new fall/winter motif at Southfork

    I like it.

And it looks like the second season will also be shot in the fall and winter.

With all the high noon, mid-summer episodes we got with the old '80s version of DALLAS, their shooting the new show in November thru February is good with me.

It gives the show a new feel.

I always wished they did more winter shoots in the original show..I loved the look in the mini series.

When I watched Dallas as a kid/teenager I got the impression it's always summer time in Dallas.

So did I and then years later when the DVDs came out I finally saw the mini-series and I was very surprised to see snow at Southfork (albeit a different Southfork). I loved the tone it gave to the show.

And that fall/winter vibe is one of the things I love about the new series. Even though cloudy skies seen through the windows make some of those offices/apartments even whiter.

I love that they'll be filming in fall and winter. If you're into symbolism, you could say the original characters are in the autumn of their lives. They planted the seeds in the original and are now harvesting their crops, which would be the new generation. Whatever. Anyway, I love the unique beauty of the fall and hope we even get to see a little snow falling on Southfork in the winter.

Exactly right, the Ewings in decay.

In a good way, of course.

Well considering they begin shooting in September, it seems like we'll get the best of both worlds for season 2. Weather in Dallas in September is still in the mid 80's so the first few episodes of season 2 should have that hot, summer feeling of the original Dallas run

I like the fall/winter look and feel of the new Dallas, too. It gives the show a vibe it did not have in the original since they only shot on location during a few weeks in the summer all the time then. In fact, I recall seeing only one scene where it was raining on Southfork; I think it was in CBS Season 2/DVD Season 3 -- when Pam is torturing herself about having a baby with Bobby that could die because of the Barnes' genetic condition and she arrives home in her Porsche under drizzly skies and then she and Miss Ellie have a nice, touching scene about what children mean to them as regards their respective marriages in the SF livingroom.

I hate the Southfork grass not being green and lush. The grassy area outside Bobby's office (old dining room) in episode 9 (when Rebecca goes through Christopher's bag) is pretty much brown and crunchy (almost dead). I thought it looked horrible.

I'd rather they shot in the summer like they did on the original. I want to see those breakfasts by the pool again and people swimming in the pool. I always enjoyed those scenes.
Yes, JR. The answer is yes. You were the love of my life!

Aside from the beautiful fall scenery this season, they dress differently in the colder weather, which I like as well. Autumn has always been my favorite season so I'm looking forward to another fall season on Dallas.

I want the new DALLAS to occur and exist in an endless autumn. Just as the old show existed in an endless summer (Except for the miniseries).

I absolutely agree. Seeing Southfork and Dallas in fall and winter is a rarity (only the miniseries and JR Returns allowed us to see exterior scenes during anything other than late spring or summer). The sight of Southfork with fall foliage, mist, brisk mornings, etc. was a nice change for those of us that notice these things. Gone, at least for this season, were the scorching, sunny days with lots of greenery and Ewings hiding under patio covers and umbrellas. Apparently, we will see more of the fall/winter exterior shots for season 2. However, I understand that filming starts in September, so we are likely to catch some heat and greenery still in Dallas for the early episodes of season 2. With 15 episodes, filiming will span the fall and into winter, so maybe we will - if we are lucky - get to see Southfork II covered in snow, and Ewings decked out in jackets and gloves.

Season 12 (1988-89) features some scenes with rain. I think it's episode 3, where JR, Bobby, John Ross and Christopher are taking a helicopter to go hunting in Arkansas. It is pouring down rain as Clayton waives goodbye to the guys flying off in the copter. Also, there are many other scenes during season 12 where it is dark and overcast. Apparently, that was a very wet summer in Dallas that year, because many early episodes of Season 12 are graced with rain and clouds.

Southfork's orange glow is one of the only things about the new show I solidly enjoy:
