Default Whose Oscar did Alexis toss through a window?

Back in brilliant Season 2, there were a number of indirect allusions to real life hobnobby celebs.

In her art studio, Alexis is reminded by Joseph about the gossip regarding her fighting on a Greek tycoon's yacht with his wretchedly unhappy wife --- what seemed a clear reference to Aristotle and Jackie Kennedy Onassis (later retconned most regrettably to Zach Powers' and spouse).

Alexis also tells Krystle about pulling off the wig of a well-known movie star and throwing her Oscar out a window....

Who do you picture that being?

BTW: 4 of these actresses don't have Oscars.

I always imagined it was Helen Lawson.

It would have been fun had it been Sophia Loren given her connection to the Alexis role but I always imagined it was Faye Dunaway. She has a bit of a reputation for being difficult and has even been nicknamed "The Bitch" by airline staff so I could imagine Alexis clashing with her.

I pictured Susan Hayward, in a sort of VALLEY OF THE DOLLS mash up.

Oh, that's absolutely perfect: not too young, not too old, not too close to Collins in real life, and not too later-generation Method/post-Method riff-raffy.

PS: I went to her grave only hours before Princess Diana died.

Y'know on some subliminal level, I think Susan Hayward is exactly the actress I always wanted to place in that role as Alexis' fictional-yet-real-life Hollywood nemesis. Yet whom I could never consciously conjure. (Leave it to James to find her!)

Crawford and Davis are too old and bitterly bitchy. Stanwyck, too reserved. Hepburn, too contemptuous of the whole goddamned thing (and when would she ever deign to socialize with Alexis Carrington??)

While Elizabeth Taylor would be too young, too soft and too statured.

And a Jane Fonda would be far too New Hollywood.

But Susan Hayward is exactly perfect. She's of that Middle Era, kinda old/kinda modern, bitchy but not too bitchy, statured but not too statured, earthy-tawdry but not too tawdry --- yes, it's that VALLEY OF THE DOLLS..... thing.

Doesn't her character in VALLEY OF THE DOLLS win an Oscar? Maybe there's a DOLLS crossover in Alexis's backstory.

It's been so long I can't remember. But I'm sure Alexis was staying in the LaBianca guest house in August of '69.

I don't know if Helen Lawson won an Oscar in either the book or movie of "Valley of the Dolls". I would imagine she would more likely have won a Tony.

    Some other candidates could be:
    Anne Baxter
    Shelley Winters
    Maggie Smith
    Vanessa Redgrave
    Lee Grant
    Gloria Grahame
    Dorothy Malone
    Mercedes McCambridge
or - turnabout is fair play - Patty Duke

I think Alexis getting into a catfight with a boozy Shelley would be a hoot. Alexis and Dame Maggie would trade witty insults before slugging it out.

Yeah, that's it: I think I subconsciously imagined it was Hayward's character in DOLLS that Alexis had the contretemps with. A wig got pulled off, an Oscar got tossed through a window ...

    Oh, ha! So it's universal!

I have no memory of this at all.

I always thought that the dewigging of the actress was something that happened in the mid to late '70s and the Oscar going through the window was just won. So I always thought it to be a '70s thing. Did Liza win an Oscar for Cabaret in the mid '70s?

I always had it as Liza.

Alexis didn't specify. Presumably, it was during her sixteen formative years away from Denver.

I think CABARET was, like, 1972 maybe. But Liza lacks the requisite diva aspects, despite her best efforts.

True Liza isn't diva enough, she's too nice. Though Alexis never struck me as one to pick on someone nastier than herself. Atleast not before she had all that money. She seemed to pick on nice people.

I just always thought 1970s was the time because of how Alexis looks in season 2. She is so studio 54 and I always think Liza when I see that scene.

Wonder if Alexis drowned Natalie Wood. That was only a couple of weeks before she killed Krystle's baby, after all.

    Hope Joan never reads this.

If she hadn't mentioned the wig, I could see the following scenario:

Alexis is in Hollywood dating Ryan O'Neal. They go back to his place and Alexis wants to get intimate but Tatum is coked-up and behaving like a brat. In frustration, Alexis goes upstairs to Tatum's room and pretends to be sweet to Tatum. "I know a fun game we can play" Alexis says. "What's that?" Tatum petulantly replies. "Catch!" Alexis yells as she tosses Tatum's Oscar out the window and into the hills. Tatum screams angrily and Ryan comes running. "I know of an excellent Swiss boarding school where you can enroll her" Alexis suggests. "Oh no, I could never do that" Ryan replies. Alexis says "I was affraid you'd say that" as she leaves the house. She gets in the car and drives away. Ryan closes the door and pauses a moment before he realizes what just ocurred. He thinks to himself "that bitch just took my car!"
