USA used to dominate Olympic mens diving
I remember through the 90s the US used to dominate the mens diving and it seemed to drop off after Greg Louganis
Could it be that was because he was HIV positive and hit his head on the diving board or platform?
I hope the HIV/gay issue didnt taint the whole sport and make it lose its appeal because it has become considered "gay" with Gay being used as an insult
What else explains it?

I think men's diving/swiming always had a bit of a gay innuendo attached to it. Probably because of the sexy speedos, and they're not manly team sports.

They dominated in 2008.
Phelphs is now past his prime, so don't expect the same from him this year.
Speedos are also slowly being replaced with the new bathing suit, which goes all the way down to above the knee.

Maybe this person is unaware that Louganis competed in 1984 and 1988?

Are we talking about diving or swimming? Either way we might be back on the right track in men's diving....

Just showed Louganis in the stands
He gone grey but looked otherwise OK
I think some of you missed the point
Yes Louganis competed in the 80s but once the divers who were already in the system left there was no one to replace them
My post was only to ask if that was the reason
To say the US dominated in 2008 is a bit perplexing because I believe The US did not win a single medal in Mens diving

Are you uncomfortable with a question asking if homophobia killed a sport in the US?

Meant swimming overall, mainly the Phelps events, but you're right, not in the diving category.
