Default Are you on the Fifty Shades of Grey bandwagon?

I can honestly say I have ZERO interest in this - but it's everywhere. I work with people who are gnawing away at their nails because they can't get to a shop quick enough to buy the sequel. It just doesn't appeal to me I'm afraid - not for prudish reasons or anything, I just don't see the attraction of reading something that is a new version of Mills and Boon.

If I want to read fanfiction, I'll read it on the Internet. I don't care how much hype the series gets - not worth my time.

nobody is going to admit to reading a book that everyone considers masturbatory material for women
Brown for first course, white for pudding. Brown is savoury, white's the treat. Of course I'm the one who's laughing, because I actually love brown toast

I read a review of the trilogy that was hysterical in picking it apart. It sounds awful to me.

I have never ever read any fiction books, no Catherine Cookson, Stephen King, nothing. I skip those areas when I go into a bookshop and go straight to history, genealogy, biographies and autobiographies and any Corrie or Emmie books which is usually factual books on the two fictional shows.
My avatar is an autograph of Coronation Street's Philip Lowrie (Dennis Tanner, an original character) which he personalised for me.

Funny how it's the same women who shout about being 'held back' and 'treated as 2nd class' that are reading books in which a woman is treated as nothing more than a sex toy for a man.

There are some fictional novels based on the backstory war eras of Corrie and Emmerdale.
I'm the opposite, I love fiction.

I have seen some and have a few but prefer to watch the actual shows then I can get the info from the actual programme dialogue as the books dont always tie in with the serial.

I admit I picked up a display copy of the sequel and thumbed through it the other day. I'm not as big of a reader as I used to be....I never got into Twilight, I never got into Harry Potter, not Lord of the Rings....and the content doesn't bother me. I just tend to like nonfiction better. If they make a movie (which I'm sure they will), I'll probably see it....God knows I was forced into sitting through the Twilight saga.

the books are legitimately bad, I suggest everyone read them just for the laughs. I read a free ebook preview, it was truly delightful

That's what I'm going Garrison, reading them for the laughs and to see how bad it gets.

I bought the first one because of all the hype and also because I saw a schoolgirl in my local Tesco's flicking through the pages and being told off by her Mum to "Put it down, come away". I was curious LOL

I'm on the second one, but oh, some of it is just so funny, the way some scenes are described, I'm afraid, I just can't take it seriously.

    I'm normally into autobiographies/biographies.

I'm reading it but wouldn't say i'm obsessed by any means! My friend however, completely OTT obsessed. Very strange affect this book as had on her but from what i've heard, she's by no means alone.

My Mum just told me she bought the first book thinking it was a murder/mystery.

    Will she be surprised?
