Default Mary Tamm dies, aged 62

Mary Tamm has died at the age of 62.

The former Doctor Who star lost her 18-month battle with cancer in London this morning (July 26), her agent confirmed.

Tamm was perhaps best known for her role as Romana, the companion of Tom Baker's Doctor in the 1978-79 Key to Time series.

"She had a great zest for life. She was a fantastic actress - she played stage parts of such range, parts that would take your breath away. She could play any role, and do so wonderfully," her longtime agent Barry Langford told PA.

The stage and screen actress starred in a number of films including The Odessa File and The Likely Lads.

Following Tamm's role in Doctor Who, she featured in lead roles in shows including The Treachery Game, The Assassination Run and sitcom The Hello, Goodbye Man.

Tamm starred in Brookside from 1993 to 1996 as Penny Crosbie, and in EastEnders as Orlenda for a week-long storyline in 2009.

She also appeared in TV shows including Paradise Heights, The Bill, Doctors, Holby City and Wire in the Blood.

Oh gosh that's a shock. I've been watching her series on dvd the last few months, still got Power of Kroll to do. I liked her audio commentaries with Tom Baker, she had a good chemistry with him surprisingly. As a kid I remember being dazzled by her in Ribos, all that white glamour against the magical castle set of Ribos, but more so I remember her being endlessley kidnapped in THE ASSASINATION RUN. I had a bit of a crush on her a s a kid.

Can I just say how much I don't like it. Too much blue and the wrong kind of blue.

This is the kind of random conversation that Tamm would have found quite funny if the audio's are anything to go by..

Amazing how Katy Manning, of all people, has outlived nearly all the other 70s WHO girls.
"Anyone who reacts critically to a show in a written-down form, whether it's professionally or in a blog, is responding to the programme in a perfectly valid way, but in an utterly atypical way. That's just not how people watch television." - Steven Moffat

That is actually astonishing. But i suspect she's like Patsy from ABFAB , she's had every type of substance , and i imagine every type of experience, there is to have and she's probably formed that Keith Richards chemical immunity. It either kills you or makes you insanely strong and you live to be 100.

It's weird to think we're talking about 70's WHO girls that we grew up with dying off, it really does on only seem like yesterday and the dvd releases make that sense of yesterday even stronger.

Sad that three of them have been lost to cancer in less than 16 months. Oh, Katy Manning was in Gallifrey too...as Borusa.

Yeah...Three of them lost to cancer in less than 16 months.

I don't know. As an INTP, I haven't noticed the blue yet but I thought I glimpsed indigo.

Her husband has now also died, seemingly of a broken heart, just hours after attending her funeral on Tuesday.

Marucs Ringrose is believed to have suffered a fatal heart attack at home whilst replying to emails from well wishers after the funeral.

    Very sad
