Default Why do most posters here have such awful taste in music and bands?

Like the question asks..... I guess it's because most people who watch soaps are so obsessed with the latter, they don't have any time to go out and investigate lots of new, exciting and left-field (not to mention, interesting and exhilarating) music, preferring to stick to the same conservative choices and acts such as the eternally dull Adele, Rihanna, Spice Girls, Madonna, Sting, Paul Simon, Phil Collins, Tina Turner, Bryan Pizzaface Adams, Def Leppard, Spandau Ballet and the rest of the bland duffers..... what is wrong with you guys?

Surely being a soap fan does not equate with being automatically bereft of good taste and judgement when it comes to championing vibrant music that isn't the usual popular mass-consumer rubbish which is only available at Asda or Tescos... there is so much great shit out there to get passionate about, be it world music, folk, roots, Cajun, Bluegrass, Zydeco, French pop, experimental, ambient, post-rock, industrial, avant garde, retro-boutique, sci-fi lounge, left field electronic, etc etc.....

I might like many of the older bands of my youth, but it certainly hasn't stopped me from bypassing a lot of the populist and bland commercial dross that has blighted the radio waves for the last 20 years or so which most folks keep waxing lyrical about right now......

Come on - let's get YouTubing for some NEW stuff that you might not have heard before. There is tons of the stuff out there - try it, you might like it.

Stuff Adele and the other identikit and rubbish duds that you hear every day in every single episode of soaps ad nauseum..... how about expanding your horizons a little and taking the plunge???

It doesn't hurt to explore a bit more away from the accepted norm.....and be a bit more adventurous.

Can't believe you put Adele and Bryan Adams in the same category as the others you mention!

    Because they're both DULLLLLLLL.

Tell you what..... Adele's appearance reminds me of Alison Moyet (from the 80s). She used to be in band called Yazoo (with Vince Clarke - the same guy who then went on to form Erasure - whose singer Andy Bell sounded like Alison Moyet). Alison has a brilliant voice - full-throated, bluesy and very gutsy. She was huge for a while but then disappeared to have family and the rest...she still makes records now, but not many people remember her these days. This will also happen to Adele in less than 25 years time.....I am certain of it.

Anyway, in my view, Alison has a MUCH better voice than Adele, who sounds like she has a sore throat most of the time. I am sick to death of Adele simply because everywhere I go and every time I see a TV programme or soap scene that song "Someone Like You" is on it. Everybody and anybody wants to sing this wretched song, be it X Factor/BGT wannabes or karaoke or whatever...there is absolutely no escaping the bloody tune....like Japanese Water Torture!!

Talk about overkill.....not even Alison Moyet, during her huge 80s success, had a hundredth of the amount of overkill that Adele has.

You surely must concede that the artists names being touted here are less than exciting!

I am surprised that you, of all people, aren't a fount of knowledge on the many genres of music that is at our disposal, being already so educated about television - you know what I'm saying??

Instead of using a derogatory term like 'awful' try using 'different'.

I like this song. It reminds me of nightclubbing in the 80s. I'm not sure how old it is. I stumbled across it on iTunes a few days ago.

I like the Decemberists, too. They remind me of the 1990s' Jayhawks.

This one's a little older, but I love the instruments.

How can you lump rubbish like Adele in with brilliant acts such as Bryan Adams, Def Leppard?

Generally today's music is pathetic. Give me the true quality stuff like Bryan Adams, Def Leppard, Dire Straits, A-ha, Fleetwood Mac, Queen, Heart etc.

Hardraw Force I think your OP is a bit patronising I must say. We all have different tastes in music. And just because you watch soaps does not make you have awful taste in music. I am not keen on Adele but she is better than a lot of the hiddlydiddly that comes out like David Guetta and Lady Gaga and that is saying something.

Coldplay mainly sing "Beachy Head cliff jump" music as does Celine Dion and the Snow Patrol Chasing Cars soporific tarradiddle.

My music tastes are The Rolling Stones, Elvis, Michael Jackson, Beatles, Paul Simon etc. Does that mean I have awful taste in music then for not liking music from bands that many people have never heard of?

As said I like most Dire Straits except Brothers In Arms for some reason. Madonna is a bit overrated I think.

The excrement we see in music is Eminem, 50 Cent, David Guetta, Christina Aguilera, JLS and Someone Like You by Adele even if I may sort of kind of in a way in a manner of speaking like some of her other songs.

Well, I'm just having a laugh by spouting off, that's all..... I'm not having a dig at anyone in particular - really, but then that's just the way I come out with things. Of course people have their own tastes in music... I mean, if I were to list all of the bands and songs I liked, I suppose it too would be admitting to liking a lot of cheese.

I'm not being vindictive in any way at all, just fancy getting up a few people's backs by accusing them light heartedly of liking crap music - which, of course, isn't really crap though...... because I too like some stuff which others might consider crap as well!

I am just praising and slagging off music/bands in equal measure - it gives me something to do as a break from talking endlessly about the soaps which are really starting to bore the tits off me right now.....
