Kind-Hearted, Respectable Chick-Fil-A President: We Support REAL Marriage!
The president of the popular fast food chain Chick-fil-A has ignited a social media firestorm after saying his company opposes gay marriage.
“Guilty as charged,” Dan Cathy told the Baptist Press when asked about the Atlanta-based company’s support of the traditional family unit.

I respect Dan Cathy for what he said and what he's willing to do. I've always thought highly of the restaurant for being closed on Sunday (Lord's Day). Cathy's willing to take in less business (you know they'll be boycotts abounding), because he is willing to back up his beliefs - it's a noble thing.

Interesting, this is the second time I have been able to say this today but....
no is 'innocent' or 'without sin'. Name one person who fits the true definition of 'innocent'.

Hitler stood up for his beliefs. Was that noble? Newsflash: bigotry and discrimination are never noble. Dan Cathy may be sincere, but it's possible to be sincerely wrong.

Hitler attempted genocide. Cathy is peaceful and doing no such thing (you can't really compare the two).

He is actively supporting government policies that actually discriminate against people. These policies are harmful. He is also espousing a belief and a mentality that does great psychological violence to millions of people, especially youth.

It's not appropriate to drag Hitler into this. His approach to gay people was to exterminate them. These people may have rotten beliefs and while they are entitled to their beliefs it doesn't make them any less wrong however why drag Hitler into this? It just detracts from the argument at hand.

Have you seen the story of the restaurant that's received a complaint because they offer discounts on Sunday to anyone who brings in a church bulletin? The guy who complained has never even been there!

I think it makes perfect sense when they are trying to impose their rotten beliefs on the rest of us through government legislation. While I have no problem with religious freedom, I have a major problem with religious fascism, and that's exactly what they are espousing.

Jesus never tried to change the corrupt, immoral policies of the Roman Empire. For example, infanticide was legal in Jesus' time, yet he never uttered a word against it nor did he organize anti-infanticide rallys. Jesus was decidedly UN-political. In fact he said, "My Kingdom is not of this world." All he said to his followers concerning the government was "pay your taxes." Jesus was all about making disciples and transforming individual lives; he NEVER told his believers to transform the culture at large or to get involved in politics.
The religious fanatics in America would have us believe Jesus was a republican, but if you really look at his life and teaching, he was more socialist than anything.
Look, believe what you want. If Christianity works for you, fine. That's great. More power to you. Just leave me the hell alone. You don't have the right to impose your beliefs on anyone else through government legislation. Why is that concept so difficult for some people?

That's exactly what the Govt. is trying to do by legalizing gay marriage and civil unions. The Govt. is telling me what to believe marriage is, and I too would like to say no.

Not really. Just because something is legal doesn't mean you have to approve of it or believe in it or like it. It doesn't even mean the government approves of it. I don't like guns but it's legal to own one and yet I do not feel as if the government is compelling me to like guns. Ditto for canned vegetables and fast food.
As for my knowledge of the Christian faith, all i can say is this: Christianity is predicated on two things--1) the existence of an omniscient, omnipotent supreme being and 2) humanity's need for salvation. I reject both these assumptions. You quote Bible verses. But, I, along with many other people, do not consider the Bible a credible source. I understand Christianity very well--from both personal experience and Biblical study. It is precisely because I understand it so well that I reject its core assumptions--the existence of god, original sin, the fall of humanity, the redemption found in Jesus' blood, the resurrection, the infallibility of the Bible as divine word, god's eternal love, etc. I understand all of that. And I just don't buy it.

That's not the impression I'm getting when people (like Cathy) are criticized for speaking out against it and tolerance is expected to make everyone feel like they are right and no one is wrong.
