If they had to go with the dreadful dream scenario, the it made much more sense for it to have been Bobby's dream as he lay in a coma after the accident.

However, absolutely ANYTHING would have been preferable to a dream resolution. It is the most rudimentary rule of plotting given to kids in creative writing classes at school that dream resolutions must be avoided at all costs. It still beggars belief that it was the favoured choice of a team of writers on the world's most successful television franchise.

And yes, it's incontrovertibly true that this decision killed the show in many ways - even though, paradoxically, season 10 is the last unimpeachably great season of the show.

BTW, the seemingly pointless morning shower scene with Pam and Mark in the penultimate (?) episode of the season was a way of getting the shot of Pam opening the shower door at the end of the next episode in a way that would not arouse suspicion. I have just re-watched Season 9 and its clear at least 5 episodes from the end that the decks were being cleared for Duffy's return. I have always thought that, this being the case, why didn't they deliver many more shockers in the finale than was the case, since they would never have to provide a resolution?

I actually like the idea of it being Bobby's dream in a coma. And I'm surprised that these writers who seemed to be REALLY on the ball didn't figure this one out themselves.

The dream being Bobby's while in a coma would've made more sense.
They could've even revealed that most of what took place during the dream really happend, like Sue Ellen hitting rock bottom, Ray and Donna adopting the little boy after they lost their baby, etc, just slightly different with Bobby in a coma instead of dead. Changing less of the story might've made the dream plot go down easier.

Of course, the slight advantage of going with this scenario was that Bobby dreamed these things as a succession of characters came to his bedside to tell him...

God that would've been so much better. A quick scene with Bobby talking with all his loved ones recapping their lives to him, which were what he had dreamed, just with the difference that he'd been in a coma instead of dead. That would've worked SO much better!
