    Exclamation Ghost Hunting.

My Eldest Daughter and Myself went on a Ghost Hunt in Chester last night, and it was very entertaining.

We got to know about The Jilted Bride who slit her own throat, The Roman Soldier who had to fall on his own sword, and the little girl left to starve to death by The Earl of Shrewsbury, in a House (now pub) Attic.

The Ladies who conduct the Tours wear long Gothic Skirts, Hats with Veils attached and Spider Web earrings.....it was a good night.

Trust us to go on Chester Race Day though - Our Guides were Heckled by drunken (mostly Scousers) race go-ers, who couldnt take their Beer.

As we were being told about the Roman Soldiers (there was a big garrison of them in Chester) some fool, was hanging off a pub balcony, shouting quotes from The Life of Brian Film. "What did the Romans do for us and we are the Peoples Party of Judea"

The race go-ers were legless drunk, and the Police were making arrests all over the place - they were a disgrace to Merseyside.

One idiot in particular said to my Daughter "Hey Love have you seen the old grey lady- whooooo" trying to be funny.

I just replied (much to her embarrassment) "Yes its Ya Ma, she's putting a bit of overtime in, after her shift in the Brothel"

It combined Ghost Stories/Hunting with History, I really enjoyed it.

We didnt come across and Ghosts or Ghoulies though, not even the Smoke Ghost of The River Dee.

    Anyone else been Ghost Hunting?

Chester really is lovely - but not on Race Day.

Yes I've been ghost hunting in around here. Salem, Massachusetts where the infamous New England witch trials took place inthe 1600s; Fall River, Massachusetts at the former home of Lizzie Borden, one of America's most beloved alleged murderers; a "haunted" quarry in the middle of nowhere-not a tour, my friend and I went alone; and a few other places. There are a few on my list, but they all are closed to trespassers so I'm figuring out how to get in without being caught

LOVE that movie!! It's fun to go at Halloween but it's so crowded you can't even walk. It's better to go in the spring when you can visit all the museums.

This one sounds worth a visit.................

    Heskin Hall
Location of the haunted place: nr Chorley, Lancashire

Origin of the haunting: 17th Century

Background of the haunted place: Construction started on the new hall in 1548 and it is one of the finest examples of Tudor architecture in Northern England. A modern conference centre masks the hall which is haunted by a White Lady. Her ghost tells the story.

Ghost story: I was a simple Catholic woman. I was at this hall during the Civil War and times were hard. However bad things got I never thought I would be betrayed by a priest. I was taught you could trust a man of the cloth. How wrong people were.

An army of Roundheads came to the house. They found the priest hiding here. He was such a coward. He offered to hang me himself to prove he was one of them and gain his freedom. The commander kept him to his offer and the priest hung me from a beam which can still be seen at the hall. My only consolation was that the commander did not believe the priest and had him executed anyway.

I still visit the hall; my favourite place is the Scarlet Room.

Dont think I'd stay overnight though.

I read a lot of books about hauntings and they mention a lot of places in the UK. it always seems spookier there because it's cloudy and rainy most of the time.

When I was a kid, an old couple died at different times in the house behind ours. The woman died in the bathtub. A year later, the old guy chopped his leg with an ax and let himself bleed to death instead of calling for help. When it was empty, their house became an old, decrepit place that reeked of cat pee. It sat abandoned for years after the couple died, but I spent a fair amount of time peering into the windows looking for ghosts. You just had a feeling there was something in there. From our house, we could see lights moving around in there at night. My dad thought it was teenagers, so he'd go check it out, but never found anyone in there. I liked the spooky possibilities.

I've been to a few seemingly haunted sites in my area and have experienced 'cold spots' in historic buildings and seen inexplicable balls of light floating over a Native cemetery in northern Canada. My youngest swore he saw a man sitting in a chair disappear at the end of a hallway in an old Gold Rush wagon stop hotel. It scared him quite a bit. It was an historic site with a tour guide and everything, but mr. minx had to get him out of there. He wouldn't take another step down that hallway.

Mr. minx and I took the Jack the Ripper tour when we were in London. Didn't see any ghosts though.

They say that kids are more intuitive about ghosts because they're not as jaded. My cousin would talk to thin air when he was a toddler, in a house that we swore was haunted. I slept with the lights on and shades tightly shut over the windows. Something about windows and people looking in them bothers me. Even now.
