Default What Do You Enjoy More: Watching New Dallas or Being on the Forum?

While I'm still not ready to rank New Dallas as equal to or better than the original, it is starting to interest me more and I'm sure I'll stick with it through this season and next to see how it develops. But what I've really enjoyed the past few months is logging onto the forum and seeing the different views people have about the show, good and bad. It's great when someone posts something I hadn't thought of and it changes my view of a topic, or when someone appreciates a point I raise, or a clever story idea shows up, or a heated debate breaks out between two people who both know they're "right," or when one of those threads appears that goes on for pages and pages because everyone has a view on it (some of them very passionate). We have characters and rivalries and drama and history right here, too, and in a way I almost think I'd miss giving up the forum more at this point than giving up watching New Dallas. That sounds kinda messed up, but does anyone else feel that way?

We have been here longer than Dallas was on the air, so I'm sure we will be here well beyond this series. I wonder what we will be discussing 5 years from now

    Season 6?

I enjoy the show more due to the excessive name calling and politicization of the forum

I just wish the guys who once did that hilarious Dallas Nitpicking page would also pick up on the new seasons.

Only 4 eps. in and there are already so many continuity mistakes...they'd sure have a blast

The forum. I love to engage in debate, and this forum is a real life soap opera in itself.

The show itself comes first, every time. The forum has been a very welcome substitute since the original DALLAS finished, but it's never replaced it. Now that DALLAS is back, I'm not sure what place the forum holds for me. I don't want to undermine my wide-eyed I-don't-know-what's-gonna-happen-next enjoyment of the series with previews and spoilers and speculation, and I don't want to have my post-episode buzz killed by posters who are disappointed it isn't unfolding in the specific way they'd hoped.

Plus there's the danger that comes with scrutinising any ongoing TV series too closely on the internet, which I always think is akin to what Jack Nicholson says to Meryl Streep in HEARTBURN, about her need to constantly analyse the state of their marriage - it's like continually opening the oven door while you're baking something so it never gets a chance to ... reach fruition, or the cooking equivalent thereof. I've tangled myself up in metaphors now, but I know what I mean.
"Anyone who reacts critically to a show in a written-down form, whether it's professionally or in a blog, is responding to the programme in a perfectly valid way, but in an utterly atypical way. That's just not how people watch television." - Steven Moffat

I know what you mean. Part of me would feel happier away from the internet, just watching it on TV and enjoying it for what it is. The same way I indulge in Mad Men. I find I can''t do that with Dallas. But at the same time I do find it fascinating to look at the show as my opinions seem to shift with each viewing and I'm sure when I look back on these episodes in the future I will have a totally different view point,

I love the forum but I try to stay away from spoilers. So the days after the show airs until I have watched it I need to stay away from here. But it's hard. I am used to checking the board every day even if i don't post.

At this point I don't know what comes first. or actually I think the friendships I've made because of Soapchat & Dallas comes first.
But the show is not far after since I do love it. The new show keeps getting better every week.

It's interesting conversing with real Dallas fans while the show is actually going on. Never been able to do that before. It was always almost impossible to follow the show without knowing spoilers, all the rags had future plots on the front pages, you couldn't go into a store or grocery without finding out what was going to happen, and I was the first one reading them.

    Cool

I actually realize that the more I read about upcoming storylines and the more Spoilers I come across, the more excited and addicted I get!!!

When I was in school - and back then there was no internet - I had friends from the US sending me Soap Opera Digests by mail so I could get ahead on storylines - there has always been a 0.5 - 1 year delay for most shows until they reached continental Europe. And I never minded knowing what was going to happen. So I guess in my case it is less the plotting that draws me to the show - but more to see what the directors and the actors make out of it and how I perceive the scene once I see it on screen.

Knowing a book never kept me from seeing the movie based on it and never diminished my excitement either. Actually, looking back, it's always been more the opposite. And I don't really think that is unusual considering all the excitement about e.g. the Harry Potter Movies where everyone knew the books ahead of the movies.

Since this forum has way more to offer than discussing TNTs reloaded version of Dallas, I'd stick to the forum.
It's gonna outlive the show anyway. And fanfic-world is such a lovely retreat when the writer's fail to satisfy my needs.

Thanks to everyone again who made this forum to what it is now
