Default How would JR have handled a daughter?

While I like John Ross (and James to a lesser extent) it always seemed like a missed opportunity to me that JR never had a daughter. Would he neglected her or spoiled her, or treated her much the same way as he did John Ross?

How does everyone else think he would have handled a sister for John Ross (or maybe have John Ross be born a girl in the first place.)?

I think he would've ram rodded her like he did with Lucy, at least that's what I've seen so far out of seasons 1 and 2.

The producers/writers of the show seemed to be Chauvinistic when it came to sons and daughters.
It was a sign of strength to have sons.

    The strong men had sons

    Jock, JR, Bobby

    Weak men had daughters

    Gary, Ray, Cliff

    Digger was the only exception

probably would have either left her to Sue Ellen or Miss Ellie to raise.

I can't agree about Digger. He seemed whiney, and for me falls into the norm for the show. The exception to me would've been Cliff Barnes. He seemed like a tough guy that could go toe to toe with J.R. I also can see why it would've been seen as a chavunistic approach, but then again back then even until the mid-late 90's the world had that approach toward women, and not just on tv. I think it was more the norm than anything done on purpose. I could be wrong though as I'm not involved with the show. I will say though Gary though having a daughter seems to have had a daughter who was tough as nails from what I'm seeing so far from watching very early episodes.

I actually think JR would have been enormously protective and respectful of his daughter, just the way he was protective and respectful of his mother. Can you imagine a grown daughter of JR's bringing home a man/boyfriend and how JR would have scrutinized the guy?
Yes, JR. The answer is yes. You were the love of my life!

He would have found her a husband who he could then take advantage of in business.

Yes. And he would not have bothered about her education, but would have sent her to finishing school instead. She would just be a society wife.

The most over-protective father ever. Anyone who looked at his daughter JR would have set up and thrown in jail.

He would have bricked her into the attic till she was at least 40. JR knows what boys are like..... and what they are after.

I remember JR asking Sue Ellen about giving John Ross a brother or sister and she flatly refused shortly before her miscarriage.

My opinion? The pregnancy should've been carried out, the baby should've been JR's, and the child should've been a girl. That would've made for a young adult Ewing daughter on the new show who really could go in any direction--model, businesswoman, college nerd, heroin addict, useless heiress....I could go on.

Oh, this has been the topic of MANY discussions.

Hmmm... JR with a daughter. Let's say the kid Sue Ellen miscarried was his and a girl...which means she would've been born in 1984 I believe...

First, he would not have been as hands-on with her as he was with John Ross, BUT he would probably have been a bit strict. BUT, given that, the girl would be rebellious somewhat. BUT, remember Sue Ellen left in the late 80s, SO, she would've been VERY young still and would not have had much of HIS influence while growing up UNTIL Sue Ellen returns in JR Returns which is 96 (at age 12 mind you). SO, her teen years would've been filled with dealing with trying to get to know him better, coming of age with him by this time might not have been the same as if she had been born ten years prior and become a teen in the 80s. I think by the 90s, JR had 'tamed" some in the parental factor"...At least that's what we get from John Ross...BUT that is distorted somewhat so not really a reliable view.

In 2012, said child would be 28 and as much a contender for EO as her brother and cousin. WHAT IF she were more like a Tracy Quartermaine type...vixen/villain but vulnerable (kinda like her mother) AND smart in bidness....BUT never getting the respect from her dad that she deserves, YET she is like a female version of her dad in many ways. (again I must note that I hope John Ross has elements of his mom and is not JUST like his dad completely...because I just can't see that as being possible when so much of his formative years were spent with his mother).

I can totally see a Tracy Quartermaine style Ewing daughter for JR and Sue Ellen
