I'm all for the rooms looking different, but for all the rooms to be in different locations in the house is going to seem weird. Whenever I saw the front of Southfork it was always easy to picture the dining room being off to the right and living room off to the left.

Yeah. While it's great to have DALLAS back, the floor plan makes no sense at all --- not that the original did to the degree it should've, but this one is kind of ridiculous.
And the fans will absolutely notice. Southfork is too famous.
They need a flash fire at the start of Season 2 and re-do it.

I saw an interview today with the guy that designed the new set. He said he wanted it to have both a familiar look for the original fans, but he also wanted it to be a different enough for a new audience. I don't know how changing the entire floorplan accomplishes that, but these creative types rarely make sense when it comes to defending the changes they've made.
So now the breakfast terrace has moved to the center of the house, the kitchen is off to the side of it in what would have been the garage, JR's bedroom is off to the side of the breakfast terrace (where the main entrance on the original series used to be), Bobby's room is now in the middle of the upstairs hallway from the original series, and there are several windows in locations that don't make a bit of sense.
And that's what bothers me the most. I'd be willing to forgive some of the "remodeling" if it was so everything made more sense architecturally. The front of the house should have stayed the same (although finally having a front door with windows to match the exterior is a nice touch), and then the rear interior should have been designed to match the rear exterior. Unfortunately, this just looks like a half-assed attempt at that. Although it's nice to finally get a 360 view of all the rooms, it just reinforces how bland and wrong-headed this new design concept is.

I don't care where the rooms are placed inside the house, but I was negatively surprised to see that the living room, the kitchen and the dining room are now all just one large room! It doesn't make any sense. That's how middle class families organize their homes to save space. Imagine a cook making dinner, maybe grilling something, and the vapor is finding its way to J.R. and Bobby in the livingroom, while the cook listens to Ewing family conversations. Completely and utterly ridiculous!

The lack of a formal living room is ridiculous, but I'm not going to crucify the producers over it. Successive generations turn heirloom homes upside down every day.
A ranch house like Southfork should have a formal sitting room a show peice. Having the kitchen/dinning and livingroom all one area will I think cause problems when they are plotting storylines. Everyone will be in the one place all the time!
