    Icon8 Madness

I despise this band, and always have!

Don't view their work as music - it makes me cringe!!! To have them of all people on top of Buckingham Palace for the Jubilee - AAAAAAAAAH! Shudder!!!! Can't bear them!!!!

Had to put them on mute!!!!!! All the while wishing them to fall off the roof!

Agree entirely. They have produced nothing but cheap trashy ordure with their Gaw Blimey gavnaa Cocker-knee 1980s Cocker-knee rap style music same with Blur. The only Blur song I like is Tender which is a far cry from the usual cack they produce.

I like them but I don't think they were the best act for performing atop Buckingham Palace.

I would have laughed if they all fell of after being caught by a swift gust of wind.

Can't believe what I am seeing here from the first two posters. HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE MADNESS? THEY ARE ONE OF OUR BEST EVER SINGLES BANDS AND ARE FULLY DESERVING OF A KNIGHTHOOD FOR BEING SUCH A BRILLIANT POP BAND OF THEIR TIME.

I don't get people's hatred and resentment of them, to me, they are now elder statesmen of pop, still cutting it, despite their age. Their last album "Liberty Of Norton Folgate" is the best thing they have ever done - yes, even better than their debut album "One Step Beyond" which, as anybody of our generation could attest, was one of the spunkiest pop/ska records ever, full of energy and vitality and soundtracking a wonderful era of our youth.

Okay, so a lot of their older fans (and new ones) might come across as beery lager louts and mindless numbskulls (it wasn't their fault that they attracted some pathetically misguided right wing skinheads during their early years), but their music and the influence it has had on a lot of the Britpop bands of the 90s (everybody remembers the band Supergrass, for instance) and beyond cannot go unnoticed.

For people to despise them simply because of this and their essential "London-ness" shows how sour some of you must be.

To be honest, I hate all the pop pap nowadays and have given up on the charts since the turn of the 1990s, but some of these older 80s bands can still show these plastic vacuous pop idol fakes a thing or two about good pop and catchy hooks.

The contempt for Madness shown here is very misplaced and I for one am shocked at such animosity towards one of our finest ever English pop bands.

The fact they are still so underrated speaks volumes about how many other bands of the time (The Jam, Sex Pistols, Clash, etc etc) get lauded whilst their brand of endearingly English vaudeville pop gets treated like novelty music.

If you liked a band such as The Specials who were also ne of the best bands in the history of British post punk music ever, then you surely should enjoy Madness as much, even though they are not quite as political a proposition.

Their musical lineage can be traced back to classic 60s acts such as The Kinks, The Small Faces and, of course, Jamaican ska/reggae as well as luminaries such as Robert Wyatt, Ian Dury and Elvis Costello to name but three.

I believe they are one of the finest bands this country has ever produced, and I will continue to hold them dear to my heart.

Yah boo sucks to anybody who thinks otherwise!!!!

Oh please...DON'T mention Madness in the same breath as those awful trend-hopping poseurs Bleeeeuuurrggghhh!

Okay, I like some Blur stuff (not their godawful Country House number 1 hit though) but feel that Damon Allbran is trying to be like bloody Sting now - gawd help us - in his attempts at being taken seriously as an 'artiste!'.....

but really, apart from the occasional Cocker-nee references (Parklife for example), and their shared love for The Kinks, Robert Wyatt and The Specials, Madness and Blur really have very little in common.

Besides, Blur are just cossetted Essex boys who just happened to get lucky, and have continued to bug people for the last 20 years or so.

Only really know a few of their songs but I think they're alright. Better than most stuff on the radio.

You should start getting properly acquainted with this treasured band - buy one of their [many] greatest hits album - DIVINE MADNESS is the best - and if you want to hear more than just the hit singles, then start investigating their albums - at least half of them are good / very good (especially the first one ONE STEP BEYOND and their last one LIBERTY OF NORTON FOLGATE).

There is much much more to Madness than just Baggy Trousers, One Step Beyond, and House of Fun!!!

Their videos are absolute class as well......no other band were as entertaining in their heyday.

Madness were ENTERTAINMENT pure and simple. Deffo one of the best acts of the 1980s.

Unlike those pretentious po-faced lemon-sucking poseurs like Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet or the rest of those New Romantic losers!!

Well, you do like Dallas and Mariah Carey after all, so I guess it's a bit much expecting you to like decent pop music!

    Oh, really??

Well, darling, it's time YOU had a groan or three with THIS.

Proves that when Mariah Carey opens her gob, all the dogs in the local neighbourhood have spasms and contractions.
