I am watching the Jubilee pageant live CNN right now...how dastartdly the weather, they had to cancel the flyover...
the Queen looks wonderful, and it otherwise is a very lovely pageant....I hope the weather lets up soon, no queen
should have her parade rained on!!!

Very rainy in London today for the pageant. Might book another trip to the US to get away from the rainy and cloudy streets of the UK for a week or to.
My avatar is an autograph of Coronation Street's Philip Lowrie (Dennis Tanner, an original character) which he personalised for me.

Sorry you didn't get to go to the concert, Babsie, that would have been a very fun event...
Emmerdale, go somewhere in the northeast US, it won't be a hot as here in the South,

For all the planning that went into this superb event, the one thing nobody could predict was the weather. They were unlucky to get a miserable wet afternoon like that.

Gary Barlow and the Commonwealth Band have scored this week's number one album with Sing.

The seven-track compilation features collaborations with the Military Wives, Hayley Westenra, Alfie Boe and Laura Wright. It also contains his cover of 'Here Comes the Sun', which was recently featured on a Marks and Spencer advert.

Here's the single which landed at 11

Its OK I have been to Northeast America twice, New York and Chicago which the latter is more north east to north central America. I could visit my 3xgreat grandfathers grave in Pennsylvania though.

Can't say I'm too interested by the Jubilee weekend. Not to say that it isn't incredible how the Queen has been on the throne for 60 years from such a young age with little experience - because it is! - and I'm sure I couldn't have done it. But it all seems such a palaver.

Watched some of the parade on the news. I feel bad for all the people who live in London. Imagine the traffic

60 years is a long time, but think ahead, in 3 more years, she'll tie Queen Victoria's record of 63 years, and then one more year
after that, QE II will break the record, and keep on going,

    Gotta agree here.

I know I'm only an American, but this American feels that since we are still in a global recession, are festivities this grand truly necessary? The people paying for these events are the English tax-payers (many of whom are not attending or participating in these festivities). Does anyone know how much the Royal Family is paying for this big weekend celebration?

Once again, no disrespect to The Queen; may she continue to reign.

Only an American here, as well but I think there are times when events like this can actually help the mood. It's a chance to get out of your rut, to forget (even if for a few days) that maybe things aren't so great. I can't imagine anything inspiring us here in America to have block parties, or any other little get-togethers with the neighbors like those I see occurring in the UK. I envy the Brits for having something so totally "theirs" that they can unite behind and enjoy.

But of course there are plenty of Brits who detest the royals, so your mileage may vary.

Balance it against the scale of the Queen's achievement and I don't think it amounts to a lot of disruption.

The Royal family cost me £1.00 a year
I can spare that! and dont grudge it,
she has been a fantastic Queen and i love her, like Charles and Anne and prince harry
Like princess margarets children who were brought up as commoners, same goes for Annes 2 kids
the rest I can take or leave, and there are too many hangers on
Andrew and his brood, Edward and his po faced wife, and the rest.

When I went to China - we had a tour guide who was Bill Clintons translator
over 1500 people from US govt/CIA went to China with president and took over the whole of a huge and expensive hotel in Beijing!
US taxpayer definitely paying for that!!

Nope! the queen is worth a £1. my fav choc costs more

Did you catch the documentary on this last night BF?

It's not something I would normally care about especially if it had the Military Wives involved, but I'm actually very surprised by how much I like this record.

This is really something to celebrate and as Daniel said after your post
I think there are times when events like this can actually help the mood.
I've enjoyed been on the road watching as the local bars and in some cases streets have all rallied round putting up bunting and having that warm feeling of so many people pulling together in hope of having a good time to mark the occasion.

I'm one of those you described in that I'm not attending nor participating in any of the celebrations, that said I am enjoying following all the various programmes dedicated to this celebration.

Good question, I'm not sure if that info would be available, I'd also be very interested in how much revenue the Royal family bring into the country.
