Default Desperate Housewives Finale: James Denton Sounds Off!

    Access Hollywood

The women of Wisteria Lane said their final goodbyes on Sunday night, as the curtain fell on ABC's "Desperate Housewives" after eight seasons.

One of the closing scenes saw original "Housewife" Susan Mayer (Terri Hatcher) taking one final spin around the neighborhood, as the ghosts of the street's deceased residents watch over her - including her longtime love, Mike Delfino (James Denton).

So, what did James - whose character was shot to death earlier this season -- think of the series' final episode?

"It's hard to tie up all of those loose ends, but I think they did a pretty good job," James told Kit Hoover and guest co-host Andy Cohen on Monday morning's Access Hollywood Live. "I think it played really well, it's all about what the audience wants after sticking with us for that long and it sounds like they're pretty happy. I think [show creator Marc Cherry] did a great job with it."

After meeting his untimely end earlier this season, as he was shot to death protecting Terri's character, James said he was thrilled to come back one more time for the show's homage to the characters who have been killed off.

"The ghost scene was pretty cool," James said. "People knew that some of us were coming back, but I think they thought it would be flashbacks. But having all of those people there, it's a lot of great dead actors - from Season 1 to now, we killed 52 people."

Noticeably absent from the final scene was the ghost of one of Wisteria Lane's most notable deceased residents - Edie Britt, played by Nicollette Sheridan - who, of course, was involved in the dramatic lawsuit against Marc Cherry and the show earlier this year.

    So where was she?

"Yeah, that's interesting wasn't it? I think she was booked. She was doing another job that day," a coy James noted of Nicollette's absence.

As for the rumored feud between Terri and the remaining "Housewives" - Eva Longoria, Marcia Cross, Felicity Huffman and Vanessa Williams - specifically, a recent gift from Eva, Marcia, Felicity and Vanessa to the show's crew, where Terri's name was not included, James said he wasn't privy to the details of the much-talked about gift debate.

"I can honestly say I don't know. It could be as simple as they couldn't get together on it, but Terri did do her own gift as well, so if she did get left out, she made up for it," James told Kit and Andy. "I can honestly say I don't have any idea what the backstory is on the gift."

Any rumored ill will between the ladies aside, James said his time working with Terri has been nothing but a blessing.

"It's been the best thing. I worked with Terri almost exclusively and I learned a ton from her. She's really brilliant comedically, very underrated I think. We'll have a scene on paper that you're kind of going, 'How is this going to work?' and sure enough, she makes it work," he said of his longtime co-star. "And she has a great quality where people pull for her on-screen and I benefited from that because they wanted Mike [Delfino] to be her knight in shining armor because they wanted her to be happy.

"Terri was a big, big bonus for me for eight years," James added.

I too was bummed that there was no Edie ghost...there must be some really bad blood between NS and ABC Studios, acting like she was never there.

I really enjoyed that everyone got a happy ending. The best scene was Tom and Lynette getting back together. The only thing I didn't get was the cliffhanger. Looks like we will never know.

I finished this episode about 15 minutes ago.
It was a very good ending IMO. I honestly couldn't see them all staying on WL for the rest of their lives - that would be too easy.
When they started to show their future I thought, oh no, they're going to do the SixFeetUnder thing and that'll make me cry buckets.
Thankfully that didn't happen but when Mike appeared I lost it anyway *buckets*.
As for the final scene I thought: OMG, it's Kayla! haha.
Of course her secret isn't important to us - that wasn't the point.

I'm not going to miss DH, but I'm glad I had the opportunity to watch this show. It was very very entertaining.
Btw, before this episode I watched the fantastic season finale of GREY'S ANATOMY, so I feel a bit emotionally exhausted right now.

I wonder what show is going to replace DH on Dutch television. I hope it's gonna be Revenge or Once Upon A Time

Well, even in Holland we have those pay-for-TV channels now, but I will not subscribe to those.
I'm sure Revenge was shown on one of those channels...I hope it will be on "normal" TV soon.

However, in case many of these great shows (including period drama's like Game Of Thrones and Hell On Wheels) are gonna be exclusively shown on these channels then I may consider to subscribe.
After all, buying all those dvd's is very expensive too and I'll probably only watch them once.

I usually only buy tv shows on dvd that have a certain nostalgia value, like the classic prime time soaps and those 70's and 80's mini-series like North & South and East Of Eden. I can watch that stuff over and over again so then I consider it a good investment.
