Gary & Paige

I am currently watching season 13 and I wish instead of bringing Pierce into the picture they had explored an affair between Gary & Paige. I think Paige would have been attracted to Gary. I do think Paige would have struggled with an affair with a married man.

Gary also loves beautiful women, and truthfully when he and Val finally remarried I was bored with it.

It was great that Gary showed unconditional love and support when Val had the brain virus, but then there was not a big storyline between the two.

Anyone else ever have this thought?

I was just amazed that the show actually had them "meet"!

Like the Val/Greg story later in season 13, this was a situation where characters had been on Knots for years but had never really shared any screen time. Earlier in the series it wasn't like that; everyone interacted. By the second half of the series, characters were more or less placed in storyline bubbles and had most of their scenes with certain actors. This, in my opinion, made the show less of an ensemble and more about "A" story, "B" story, etc. with each story having a star and two or three supporting characters. Having Paige emerge from her Greg/Anne bubble and interact with Gary was a good idea, but the Tidal Energy story was dreadful and deserved a quick death.

That said, I don't think having Gary and Paige become intimate would have been a good idea at all. The viewers who had been clamoring for the reunion of Gary/Val for what? eight years? would have burned down the studio if they were broken apart again so soon. I think it would have been worse somehow if Gary had been the one to cheat again, since they had made an effort to portray Gary as having learned from his mistakes and being a bit embarrassed over his past. Such a story would also have damaged the Paige character, who had seemingly grown out of her scheming ways and was more independent. She didn't seem like the type to go after someone else's man.

It would have been quite a feat, but having Val cheat on HIM could have been an interesting (if still objectionable) plotline.

All very good points. You are right about the Gary/Val reunion. There would have boon a riot!

I'm halfway through season 13. The episode I last watched had MCMXCII marked so I know I reached the 1992 halfway point. This has been a difficult season for me to get through. The only episode to GRAB my attention so far was the "hostage" episode with Brian Johnston at the Mackenzie's house with Jason Lochner. I can't stand Pierce Lawton or Joseph Barringer, both unattractive boring characters...NEXT! I just got introduced to Alex Barth and he is very nice to look at. That being said I think I will enjoy this storyline with him blackmailing Claudia by first giving her the beautiful painting of Ava Gardner (Ruth Sumner Galveston).

I recall Anne making a failed play for Gary at one point but the fact that Gary and Paige were able to maintain a business-like relationship showed a welcome bit of maturity from both of them. Imagine the impact on Mack if they'd hooked up.

I dunno. I can see Mack weighing the options:

"My daughter involved with my married best friend, or my daughter involved with my corrupt, ***-hole former best friend. Help me, Jesus..."

At that point Gary wasn't married, was he even engaged? Since Val had called off the wedding due to the brain illiness?

They reunited and remarried right before the end of season twelve (the 300th episode).

Let me clarify, when Gary was semi-interested in Anne, he and Val weren't married. It would have been interesting to see how a Gary, Anne, Paige triangle or even a rectangle, if you threw Val into the mix would have turned out. When Gary and Paige worked together during tidal energy, I know that Gary was married then.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I never liked the character of Paige at all. If the writers would have gone the route of pairing her with Gary, I most definitely would have been seeing red.

I'll save a seat at my table for you, Mark. I didn't really care for her. And I fear the season 13 writers would have made a mess of such a pairing and caused long-term damage to Gary in the process.
