It'll be interesting to see if it passes off without a hiccup.
Also, I wonder if they'll do an hour long extended episode as both Corrie and The Bill did.
By the way, when precisely (ie what month) does Emmerdale celebrate its 40th?
16th October 2012. 40 years since Jacob Sugden's funeral aired which kickstarted the series.

It was confirmed last year wasn't it when Metro paper said they'd hired the Corrie Live director especially for this. Still we'll see what happens, they best stick to using a lot of the older cast cos the young lot won't know what to do if it goes tits up. Richard Thorp did lots of live Emergency Ward 10's so should be in it!
Life is the name of the game and I wanna play the game with you...
Actually looking forward to this. The show is in dire condition and destroying characters and history left, right and centre. To see an epic failure of a lack lustre live episode would put this show into free fall.
They could just put a cctv camera in a sheep shed for an hour . That's probably going to be more interesting than watching the actors.
40 years of this utter boll#cks. 40 years it's been allowed to limp on! It's a national disgrace.

The show is very patchy at the moment so the idea wouldn't fill me with joy not that a live episode would anyhow. It will be interesting though to see how they'll pull it off.
It has become boring this week. I think Ruby, Megan, Pearl, Sam, Debbie, Brenda and Sean need to go.
They should bring back Kathy Bates/Merrick/Tate/Brookman for the 40th and have her appear in the live ep.

Sam is great, the scene tonight where he talked about cancer was very touching. He's such a good, reliable actor - always delivers.
And Brenda has really come into her own in the last few weeks, the relationship with Pollard is genius. I can't wait for Val to return, I can just imagine them fighting over Pollard for the next 30 years. Unless Emmerdale decides to pointlessly kill one of them off in a stupid fire.
It's characters like that in those little scenes that get me through such times as now when the show decides to focus on characters like Cameron, who has to be the most uninteresting thing to ever happen to the show.
And at least they give Pollard some major stories as he is one of the most central of the longer serving characters even if Turner has been in it over 4 years longer they dont know what to do with him.
Hope Betty returns soon.

Oh I can't wait for a bit of 'live' Emmerdale.... It really is getting better and better, and you just know they'll serve us up something extra special.
I'm also hoping for another "Best Of" DVD like we got at the 35th anniversary.

I have collected may old episodes on DVD and have all eps ever made from 16 Oct 1972 to 5 January 1977 and April 1978 to March 1980, end April 1980, end Jan 1981 and much of 1982 so if they do a Best Of DVD and some classic episodes from the 1970s it will be ones I have got. Then again if Network DVD release them they may just do from the ruddy plane crash onwards and dismiss the first 21 years. Emmerdale was popular before the plane crash, perhaps a bit less dramatic but still popular. Amos and Henry, Emmerdale Farm era, NY Estates. Lots happened before that Russian airliner took a detour to Beckindale.

Although tonights episode of Emmerdale was as dull as dishwater. It felt like I was having a half hour snooze and it was a depressing episode, perhaps it is copying Easties.![]()

One thing I cannot stand seeing and hearing/watching on Emmerdale is fecking Cockneys or southerners - they are so out of place it is painful.
Like the Mike Baldwins of Corrie before them (or indeed the slimy malodorous bags of jizz that is your Dev Alahans), there really is no need for them. They should just feck off to Albert Square and stay there.

Emmerdale should be renamed Londonoverspilldale.

I think Chas and Diane are a modern day Amos and Mr Wilks. Diane is the female Amos and Chas is the female Mr Wilks. And like them they are central characters because they run the pub together. Diane is like Annie and Amos combined, and those two are two of the most legendary characters ever in Emmerdale are Amos and Annie.
