Barbara was a liberal..and she worked with Kazan on "CAT' before the McCarthy hearings.
I looked it up..the hearings were actually going on at the same time as 'cat" 1954-55. the hearings lasted from 1952- 1955.

People's political ideologies always struck me as pretty obvious on Dallas:
Republicans: J.R., Jock, Sue Ellen, probably Ray
Democrats: Cliff, Pam, Ellie, Donna
Bobby was probably somewhere in the middle in the original series, but I definitely see him as someone who would eventually embrace a liberal side. Sue Ellen could also have done the same, though I expect she will still be a Republican.
All that said, I bet they don't mention what party she's running for or they make her an independent for fear of ticking anyone off.
^^^THIS!
Here's what I gathered...
The DOA seemed to be a democratic kind of organization with their support of Cliff Barnes, Dave Culver, land issues like Mimosa and Takapa...Ellie was high up in that organization, as well as Sue Ellen. We KNOW that Sue Ellen mainly was a part of the DOA because it was "expected" of her as a socialite and as Ellie's D-I-L. But it also seemed to be implied that she was not really about voting what JR and Jock voted either. She could be an Independent with more liberal tendencies.
It seems that Jock and JR...and probably also Bobby...were Republicans, considering their business issues...BUT often it seemed that Bobby was more on the liberal side of the table...and when he ran for Senator...he ran on DAVE's party's ticket. Bobby, also, may be an Independent.
No doubt, Pam and Cliff were Democrats. UNLESS they both changed their political views upon becoming big oil moguls....WHICH could happen.
Now, on the show, there was really NEVER a mention of anyone's affiliated party...it was always referred to as "THE PARTY". SO who knows...
Let's just WATCH and SEE.

With a past like hers I am surprised she would be elected dog catcher!

If Rick Perry can become governor of Texas, anybody can. My issue with the storyline is that I can't see her having the desire to be governor. Although she concerned herself with poltical matters as a member of the DOA, she never seemed like the type who would actually run for office.

Governor of Texas seems too high a post to run for. I think Sue Ellen running for Mayor of Dallas would have been a better choice. Keep the action local.

I agree about running for Senator...Mayor would be more right...but we don't really know what all she's been doing since WOTE either. #WaitNSee
I think the Governor post is fitting. I hope she actually wins but will owe a lot of favors in Austin. Maybe she is doing it to help John Ross? Governors have a lot of power to possibly change law to drill in large preserves of Texas land instead of buying it overseas???? Maybe she also want's to give back? They all say that but the power usually gets to them eventually. Throughout the serious the Ewings were always involved in politics. Sue Ellen is a successful and powerful woman now. She would make a good candidate. Think of all the "favors" she would owe people for helping her get elected. It would be a constant struggle of good vs. evil for Sue Ellen. Times where she does the right thing and others when she goes to the dark side. I personally will love it.
