Loved loved loved this episode. Got so caught up in it that I failed to realise that the Doctor & Rose were hardly in it. And it's just what S2 needed as I felt the stories haven't been very original this Season.
Oral sex with a paving slab, you can't get much more original than that!

I am not that bad.The last shows that I watched included the new seasons of Dexter, Breaking Bad andTrue Blood and currently I am watching Stargate: Universe.
One of my friends convinced me to skip season 1 of the new WHO because she thinks I would really enjoy seson 2. She's become a big fan of the show because of David Tennant and she has never season season 1 either and she says she doesn't think she really missed anything.
How would she know, unless she watched it?
Hasn't she missed some David Tennant? He was in the season 1 finale..... Then he was in the 2005 Children In Need mini episode, the 2005 Christmas special and Attack Of The Graske...of course before that he starred in every episode of Dalek Empire III, appeared in two UNIT episodes..and was in Doctor Who: Colditz, Doctor Who: Scream Of The Shalka, Doctor Who: Medicinal Purposes and a couple of Doctor Who Unbounds....among others...
I don't really see the point of doing S2 if you haven't seen S1. The Rose character would be pretty meaningless to you as so much of her story is set up in S1.
I'm nearly finished S2 and I would have to say that I thought S1 was a much stronger season. And that's not just because I think Eccleston made a much more interesting Doctor but because it feels like the same effort hasn't been put into S2, it all feels a bit flat.
The last episode I watched was shockingly bad, something about children getting zapped into a little girl's drawings. It was the first episode of WHO that I couldn't find any good in.

Matthew Graham's Fear Her came bottom in the Doctor Who Magazine poll of new episodes that year.....and in the every televised story up to Planet Of The Dead poll, it was languishing near the bottom....near the bulk of the Caroline Bk stories and all of Sylvester McCoy's first season.
Oh yes that ep is appallingly rubbish. It should have been really atmospheric and scary but it's set in a milton keynes estate and looks like an episode of FAMILY AFFAIRS.
series 2 - i remember feeling the same as Canon about it until i rewatched it with hindsight - knowing what's coming makes it seem much better, i really enjoyed Rose and Tenant this time round.
series 3 was the most lacklustre for me even though it has 4 of the very best WHO's ever - GRIDLOCKD, BLINK, FAMILY OF BLOOD 2 parter.
series 1 is like a Hinchcliffe series, perfect. No duds, no fillers, every one a mini masterpiece.

I find fault with one Hinchcliffe per season ...but only one.

There's a great shot during this where we see Rose in her pre-Doctor days, travelling on a bus looking fed up while eating chips. Which is the way Rose described her life to Jackie & Mickey in the S1 finale after the Doctor sent her back to earth. "But what do I do every day, Mum? Get up. Go to work. Catch the bus, eat chips, and go to bed."
This whole pre-title sequence finally confirms for me what new WHO has been about, it has been Rose's story all along.
Maybe I subconsciously spoiled it for myself sometime in the last 6 years because I knew Rose wasn't really going to die. I knew I was about to witness the death of that Rose, the Rose sitting on a bus looking fed up while eating chips. She was never going to be that girl again.
Voids, ghosts, Cybermen, Peggy Mitchell screaming at Den Watts ghost (while the person who murdered Den guest stars in this episode) - this episode has it all. If WHO had been any other sc-fi show then they would have spent a lot of time explaining all this but thankfully WHO invests all its time in the characters.
Jackie going along for the ride to Torchwood (Spinoff! Will it be what KNOTS is to DALLAS? Okay, I know the answer to that already.) is brilliant. She finally gets to see this incredible life her daughter now leads which brings about an awesome moment between mother & daughter.
JACKIE: "You've changed so much."
ROSE: "For the better..."
JACKIE: (whispers) "I s'pose."
ROSE: (turning to her) "Mum, I used to work in a SHOP."
JACKIE: (defensively) "I've worked in shops. What's wrong with that?"
ROSE: "No, I didn't mean that."
JACKIE: "I know what you meant. What happens when I'm gone?"
ROSE: (shocked) "Don't talk like that!"
JACKIE: (seriously) "No, but really. When I'm dead and buried, you won't have any reason to come back home. What happens then?"
ROSE: (quietly) "I don't know."
JACKIE: "Do you think you'll ever settle down?"
ROSE: "The Doctor never will, so I can't. I'll just keep on travelling."
JACKIE: "And you'll keep on changing. And in forty years time, fifty, there'll be this woman - this strange woman... walking through the marketplace on some planet a billion miles from Earth. She's not Rose Tyler. Not anymore. She's not even human..."
This addresses everything that was brought up by Sarah Jane's return earlier in the Season. Despite her mother's words, Rose will again in this episode choose the Doctor over life with her mother. This exchange also plays into Jackie's life since Pete died, feeling she has wasted the last 20 years and desperately wants to make sure that Rose makes the right decisions. The actress who plays Jackie does it all so well.
It's easy to forget that while Rose is off having these amazing adventures Jackie is left behind to get on with things. So it's a wondrous moment when she gets to meet Pete again.
The Tyler family backstory has been set up so cleverly. I love it.
And Mickey's back too to help save the day. Sadly nobody can prevent Rose being separated from her Doctor. She's shut out of his world forever.

He calls her to a beach. Oh no, it's Mr Stewart saying goodbye to Big Bra all over again.
And Rose tells him that she's loves him.
"And I suppose... if it's one last chance to say it...

But their time is up. He's gone. Rose runs into the arms of her mother while the Doctor stands alone in the TARDIS.
But wait, the Doctor isn't alone.
"What?!"
"Who are you?"
"But--"
"Where am I?"
"What?!"
"What the hell is this place?"
"WHAT?!"

I liked Rose, I liked her a lot. I just didn't realise how much I liked her until she was gone...

Ha, no. I think it was all too satisfying. We only had Rose for 26 eps but it seems so right.

It may have taken me a while to get over the lost of the Ninth Doctor (well I'm still not fully over it) but it took only about 10 minutes of The Runaway Bride to make me forget Rose.
I love Catherine Tate's Donna, she's exactly wants needed after Rose and works better with Tennant. I was rather upset when she turned him down at the end of the episode.
You're going to really enjoy series 4, I can't wait to read your thoughts on it.
You'll be even more upset when you meet the new companion. Sweet but toally bland and utterly boring. Having said that i think the fault is partly in the writing, she's quite good in GRIDLOCKD and FAMILY OF BLOOD .
