If Mack came to Abby's house and told you to "...let Karen be a mother to you...!!"
And you were staying with Abby at the time, you would respond by...

ROFL. Regardless of the question, if it involves Mack, my answer will always be shooting him in the face.

I don't know why this poll is so hilarious to me, but thank you for posting it.

I wonder if Abby would go as far as seducing the new husband of her brother's widow.

That might have been interesting, but Mack was of no use to Abby. Abby seduced most of the men she did because they could help her get ahead; Mack had nothing she wanted. Plus, Mack never gave Abby the time of day. I think he knew she was trouble and getting involved with her would lead to problems.
But, isn't the poll talking about Diana? That's what makes answer #2 so wrong and yet so funny at the same time.

I'm torn. I would try to choose whichever answer kept me furthest away from Karen. That might be a prison cell. Mind you, she still might know where I was. For the moment it might be saying that I would come home when I was ready...but I wouldn't rule out shooting him in the face.

He helped her get away Wolfbridge, even if it got her kidnapped for a while.

I'm the only one who went with "throw yourself at his feet and beg forgivness for your selfishness..."? Come on its Knots Landing.

...but it is Karen...she'll suffocate you, disapprove of your marriage, question your love for your husband, want to annul your marriage, snap at your husband (control your relationship!) but soon hurry you away when she gets shot to get you off the opening credits....better to be the Chip off the old block and stay at Gary's ranch?

I've opted for shooting him in the face because it seemed the best way of annoying Karen and ensuring that I was unlikely to go back to the house....at least, without things being different

Karen: "It's okay, honey...I forgive you for shooting Mack in the face."
Diana: "You DO?! My God woman, what do I have to do to get you to shun me and forget I exist???"
Karen: "Make me a grandmother..."

No wonder that Karen was the sort of mother who would track you down on your honeymoon.

He wasn't in "Noises Everywhere".

I know KNOTS is just fiction. And the actors aren't their characters.
But I remember reading an article in the early-'80s in then-innocent little TV GUIDE describing how Kevin Dobson would confront anybody on the set who used profanity and, with his macho resolve fully in tact, tell them not to speak that way around ladies. And Michele Lee was flushed with giddy gratitude over it.
I'd be hard-pressed today to describe the sneer which crept over my face and locked itself in almost against my will.
I often think of that whenever I recall those scenes at Abby's house with Mack or Karen arriving to scream at Diana.

I am only on season six, so I haven't seen that episode yet.

I guess you could categorize him as a self-pitying drunk. If you've seen how strained his relationship was with his father, you can see where it comes from.

Yeah, I remember that episode! Season 4 was awesome, & definitely one of my favorites (so far). People my age can't stand watching "old shows", but I am crazy about them. I guess I was just raised watching good television. Knots Landing, Dallas, Falcon Crest, and Dynasty are way better than anything on today. Mac was really cool at first, but he's starting to drive me insane! I dont know what it is about him that makes me... want to shoot him in the face. It all started somewhere in season five, though.

Yes, that's generally where I pinpoint the beginning of Mack's descent into obnoxiousness. Although I'm re-watching Season 4 right now, and I'm finding that he's already annoying me. I used to at least be able to enjoy him during this season but not anymore. Maybe Seasons 5-14 retrospectively tainted Mack's one good year (IMO) for me.

I think the awesomeness (is that an official word?) made up for the obnoxiousness of certain characters. I just think Mack (just realized I spelled his name wrong) was a little too much at times. Wolfbridge was an excellent story line, but his obsession with it was extremely annoying. While Mack drives me crazy, I do think he contributed a lot to the show and I would rather have Knots with Mack than without him. But, there is something ridiculously obnoxious about him. Karen can be the same way, though, but her reactions to things are so human that I find the character relatable. Like, I thought she was a little over dramatic (concerning Diana) in season five, but came to the conclusion that I would probably handle the SAME way. No matter how annoying the characters of Knots Landing can get, they're all so well developed, and incredibly human. No matter how ridiculous a story line is, the characters are just so relatable. That's what I love most about this show. I find the characters of a show more appealing than the story lines, and like that Knots Landing is driven by its characters. Great show! I love that I'm finally seeing the entire thing. Hopefully, Mack doesn't get too annoying.
