Dallas research

Dear friends and DALLAS fans,

I am working on my Bachelor's degree thesis and I am doing a research on my favourite soap opera - which is DALLAS, of course.
I need your cooperation, and I am sure that with your help the research will be fine. I intend to make a comparison between the old and the new series. I will be posting soon a questionnaire, but any of your personal remarks are very useful, and you could send them to me on private messages or even write them here, on this thread.

I don't think the new show will be airing in three months though. If that idea falls through, why not compare DALLAS to DYNASTY?

Or you could compare Dallas pre-Dream and Post-Dream (if the new show doesn't premiere in time).

You all have excellent ideas, and I will take them into consideration for the questionnaire. I know that the new series will be airing in July, but I am interested to see if the people's perception towards Dallas has changed over the last 20 years, and I am also interested to know how they feel about the new series, if they wish to see so many new faces, so different from the original series (as actors, I mean, not as characters), or if they have ideas for the new script...

My work, in fact, is about the impact of the soap operas on the public. After reading the authors and their studies related to television, soap operas and public, I have to make a case of study, so something in particular related to this subject, and I chose Dallas, because it had and it continues to have a great impact, and also because it is very familiar to me, and I could do the research easier.

I think this is great what you're doing. The way the television industry treats the genre of soap operas is criminal. The recent cancelling of so many LONG TIME soaps in daytime television is beyond forgivable. Along with live theater, the soap opera has always been the training ground for the BEST in the business. And some of the best chose to stay in the genre as opposed to leave and go on to the big screen or primetime television. Good luck with your thesis! Feel free to send me the survey.

You've definitely come to the right place. I think all you need to do is go through the "New Dallas" forum and read through it. You could probably earn a PhD from all the material that's already there.

So you should all know, I am about to finish all the books and articles for the theoretical part this week, and in 2-3 weeks, as soon as I write all the information on paper, I will be able to actually begin the research.

I need at least 100 respondents to my questionnaire, which is part of the research I have to do for my Bachelor's degree thesis. Could anyone please tell me how many members of this website are? I would be most grateful. I will put the questionnaire next week.

You might try to contact the admin of the Dallas page on facebook. That site has a few thousand "likes", and you would have much more of a chance for answers to your questionnaire I'd think. There are probably only about ~50 people who post here regularly.

I did a feasibility study on bringing back Dallas to TV (HA! Imagine that!) back in 2008 and got help with opinions and research here, too. And I also got an A on the paper. This is a helpful group.
