Rambo Movie Fanfic. John Rambo, 1964 to after the Vietnam War. Prequel.

Right here is a fafic on one of my fave action herores of all time. John Rambo played by Sly Stallone. In the 4 films we found out a bit about his early background and in Rambo II it was revealed he joined the US army in the summer of 1964. And in First Blood it was known he had fought in the Vietnam War, as we saw flashbacks to when he was a prisoner of war in First Blood and when he was tortured. And in the final film we know Rambo's father was called R. Rambo on the post box of his ranch so in the prequel we reveal a bit about his family history and he had a younger brother who died as a baby. And it shows how much happier he was before his army days and Vietnam War days.

This prequel follows him leaving school in Bowie, Arizona and joining the army in 1964, meeting Col Sam Trautman and it also features some of his army friends mentioned in the film such as Delmore Berry, Arteger etc.

THE OPENING CREDITS ROLL.

FRONT FIELD OF CATTLE RANCH, BOWIE ARIZONA, USA. APRIL 1964.

16 year old John Rambo and his friend Chuck Hamilton are playing soccer outside John's fathers cattle ranch. John momentarily looks at the headstone of his mother and brother who are buried on the ranch. It reads, Duane Rambo, 17 March 1953-29 January 1954, Brother of John, son of Reuben and Marie Rambo. Then Marie's inscription below reads Marie Rambo nee Drago, 16 May 1925-25 August 1957, Beloved wife of Reuben and mother of John Jay Rambo and Duane Rambo.

CHUCK Still miss them.
JOHN Yeah, although I try not to think about it. I remember when my brother was born. Very sickly he was. Mum died over 3 years later.
CHUCK Was your mum German?
JOHN No but her mother was German, father of Italian parentage. Father is a Native American but an uncle is doing the family tree and found we have an ancestor from England who came here in 1802 and wed a Cherokee. All the rest in my fathers family are Cherokee Americans. Mum was always proud of her European roots over 6000 miles away.
CHUCK I have English and Irish heritage. Where in England was your ancestor from?
JOHN Erm, County Suffolk I think. His name was James Catchpole.
CHUCK Anyway, what you doing when you leave school this summer?
JOHN Wanna join the US Army. Always been an ambition of mine.
CHUCK Go for it. I still have a year to go before I leave school.
JOHN I cannot wait as I hate school and Mrs Braithwaite.
CHUCK What a dragon she is.
JOHN Say that again. Come on lets go inside for a drink.

EXT. OUTSIDE A LOCAL SCHOOL, BOWIE, ARIZONA, JULY 1964.

John Rambo, who has just turned 17 is walking out of the school looking happy. It is his last ever day. Chuck walks up to him.

JOHN Well Chuck, I have left school. I am free to join the Army.
CHUCK Way to go partner.
JOHN I am going to the local Army recruitment office next week. In the meantime I need a few days off.

CHUCK Cant say I blame you. I cant wait to leave school.
JOHN And in 50 or so years I can retire unless I stay in the Army and get a pay out. I wish was older so I could have been in it in 1962 for the Cuban Missile Crisis.
CHUCK Dont wish you was older John Rambo. You are sweet 17.
JOHN And you are sweet 16. Come on lets go down the local bar for a shandy to celebrate.

INT. INSIDE REUBEN RAMBOS CATTLE RANCH. AUGUST 1964.

John is in his army uniform. He is waiting for the mini bus to arrive as he starts his army career.

REUBEN Be careful son.
JOHN Dad I go to fight for our country in wars and have to put myself at risk. I will fight for America.
REUBEN I shall expect a visit when you are on leave my son.
JOHN You may and I shall write. I am doing this for Mum and Duane as well as they would be proud.
REUBEN I am sure your brother would have liked to join the Army as well.
JOHN Chuck is coming round to see me off as well.
There is a knock at the door.
REUBEN Bye son.
JOHN Wish me luck dad. I'll answer the door.
John answers it. It is 37 year old Colonel Samuel Trautman and John's friend Chuck.
TRAUTMAN John Rambo. I am Colonel Samuel Trautman. I shall be your trainer.
They shake hands.
JOHN Pleased to meet you Colonel. And thanks Chuck for coming to say goodbye.
TRAUTMAN I have just been made a Colonel though. You may be one day young Johnny.

EXT. FRONT OF RAMBO CATTLE RANCH.

John is hugging his dad. He then hugs his best friend.

CHUCK I shall miss you Johnny.
JOHN And you. I will keep in touch. Nothing to stop you signing up next year Chuck Hamilton.
TRAUTMAN Time to go now John.
REUBEN Bye son.
TRAUTMAN Ready to start your career in the US Army.
John Rambo gets on the minibus and shakes hands with some fellow recruits.
JOHN (out of a window) Keep your chins up dad, Chuck. My mum and brother would be proud.

The minibus drives off down the track. Reuben and Chuck are stood waving goodbye as the truck drives off into the Arizona wilderness.

JANUARY 1966, BUNK BEDROOM AT SOLDIERS QUARTERS AT AN ARMY BASE IN GEORGIA, USA.

18 year old John Rambo is sat with his friend Delmore Berry. Delmore has just signed up in the Army.

JOHN So do you think we will get deployed to Nam?
DELMORE I hope so.
JOHN Why is that Delmore?
DELMORE I want to fight in a war rather than be doing training.
JOHN That is why we are training, to fight in wars. Our time will come. At the moment I'd rather be doing this than having my brains blown out. 1966 has just started and we are still listening to Elvis Presley on our radios so enjoy it while you can.
DELMORE Arteger and Bronson have been deployed.
JOHN Last year US became involved in the Vietnam War. An 8000 mile or so journey across the Pacific in a helicopter would be exciting if we did go, or on an army ship. I doubt a chopper would make the journey unless they stopped to refuel at Hawaii. My younger brother who died as an infant would have been proud. I am doing this army career for him in many ways.
DELMORE I have never had any siblings. Only child me.
JOHN I was until I was almost 6 then regained that when I was almost 7.
DELMORE How sad for you.
JOHN I am doing this for my mother as well. She died in 1957 when I was 10. I had a pretty rough childhood as dad was always drinking a lot so I learned to look after myself. I virtually ran the ranch with the help of friends.
