From when the show first started, but bears repeating. I wonder if the grade would be higher now.

Argh, and what a nice promo for January too.
This show has exceeded my expectations and is without a doubt my favorite new show from the 2011/2012 batch.
I've just worked through the first ten episodes, and am well and truly hooked. Loving this series so much - it's so nice to see the return of the drama genre, with no cross-pollution.
While articles are frequently referencing 80s soaps, it feels to me a lot like some of the 90s nighttime drama (led by Melrose Place).
The characters are mostly utterly horrible, which I love. Part of me wants to see Tyler get his comeuppance, but I really just want him to keep stirring up trouble. As Jason said, Lydia is a great character. And I really like Emily too - always a good thing in such a large role. I'm also very much enjoying Victoria. Madeleine Stowe portrays that frozen mask so well, with her icy fake smiles, and her little blinks. She's fascinating - part Mary Crosby, part Cher, part Morticia Addams, part Carol Vorderman, part Borg Queen.
I'm very excited at the thought of seeing how the rest of this season pans out.
Just saw another great promo for this show. Can't wait till we catch up to the engagement party night in the pilot.

This show has really been on a roll the last few episodes.
I'm really hoping that the pilot ends up being a bait-and-switch and Daniel isn't actually the one killed on the beach.
I was hoping for that this morning too. We didn't actually see who got shot that night, all we saw was Charlotte running to the party claiming that her brother was hurt. She could have mistaken the body, or the wounds might not be as serious as we are led to believe (maybe no one died).
The latest installment was excellent as usual, but I want to see the engagement party.
Could the body be anyone else but Daniel? The promos are all leading to him, and Charlotte was screaming his name in the pilot. Yet if it's Daniel, I would feel let down in some way. If there was somehow another body, it would be a very intriguing twist.
I just finished watching it. I've been off and on with it in its first season. So, could someone tell me, WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED TONIGHT?
And if possible, please provide as much backstory as you can remember. Gracias.
Well, I got my wish, but I am a little disappointed. While I'm relieved the body on the beach didn't belong to Daniel (even though I admit that would have packed the greatest dramatic punch), I think it's kind of lame that it was Tyler. It should have been someone else. I mean, who (on the show or the audience) cares that Tyler's dead? He was already gone, so what does it really change? It feels kind of tacked-on. If the killer doesn't end up being a major character, then this will have been a huge waste, IMO.

I think that will be the next arc of the show though. Daniel must've been knocked out by something (I'm assuming by Amanda, because after speaking with Jack, she realised that Emily was a loyal friend afterall, etc or Emily's mentor/Japanese businessman Takeda). This is why we saw Daniel falling face first onto the beach at the start of the latest episode (although the producers were making it look like he'd been the one who was shot). Either Takeda shot him or Amanda did. Takeda said to Emily, something along the lines of he was back to get her plan for revenge back on track. After the whack on the head, Daniel said he didn't remember anything of what happened. We then see him being arrested for Tyler's murder (in the promo for next week). Oh, I love it!![]()
After watching the episode again, I've come to the conclusion that neither Takeda or Amanda shot Tyler. Whoever did it was wearing a black tuxedo jacket. None of the guests at the party were wearing black jackets (except security...but it wouldn't have been one of them). Takeda was seen wearing a white jacket after the shooting, when he picked up Amanda. Funnily enough, Grandpa Grayson was noticibly absent from the entire event. So I'm guessing it was either him, or David Clarke is gonna turn up alive at some stage (which I'd already assumed he would anyway).
I'm sure Wikipedia is going to be all over this eventually but here are some key points:
Tyler's beef with Emily is that she framed him for the death of Frank (the guy that Victoria was having an affair with, the one who was so close to finding out about the Emily/Amanda connection and blowing the lid off everything. Turns out Amanda Clarke (the fake one not the real one) killed Frank to protect Emily (who's name happens to be Amanda Clarke). Anyway, Tyler was sent away for that.
Jack Porter is the guy that blurted out Charlotte's paternity (she's the Grayson's youngest girl), declaring her to a Clarke and Emily's half sister (with the tapes taken from the shrink that spoke with a very young Amanda Clarke before she became Emily Thorne). This wound up getting Jack in trouble with Victoria - who tried to off him. Emily wanted him out of Southampton and on a boat, but he never set sail after finding the blood on Amanda Clarke's (the fake Amanda's) hands.
The Graysons are headed for a divorce, we don't know how long their little paper agreement will last.
Regarding who killed Tyler....
Not Emily, Declan, Charlotte, Victoria (they were all at the party). Was Conrad at the party when the gun went off? Did he know that Tyler was in attendance? Conrad could be a good suspect - the two parted badly, Tyler tried to blackmail him.
It could be Amanda Clarke (the fake one). She had someone's blood on her hands and made sure to get out of Southampton fast (didn't she get in Takeda's car???).
I doubt that it's Daniel, he was knocked unconscious by someone (maybe Tyler before he got shot??). Though all signs will be pointing to Daniel.
Speaking of Daniel, he has now seen part of Emily's secret box (one paper at least), so I'm sure he'll have more questions for his bride to be.
EJ if you have any more questions let me know. I'm sure an Internet search can help you as well.![]()
