Cliff jumped at the sound of that voice. "Pam."
Sue Ellen quietly got up. "Cliff, I will take a taxi back to the ranch." She handed him the car keys. "Take your time."
He nodded, unable to take her eyes from his sister. Pam smiled, waiting for him to say something. "I missed you, what have you been upto?"
She swallowed, "I got married again. Tom Hutton is a screenwriter out here, and he is an only child. We have a very peaceful life, no family drama. Cliff, I want it to stay this way, I don't think I could bear to be dragged back into the feud. I am fed up with it."
He nodded and they held hands, gazing over the water as the setting sun turned it red.

Cliff drove up to the ranch house and got out of the car. Sue Ellen hurried out. "Thanks, I really appreciated what you did Sue Ellen, but I have to have time to think, I just want to go home and sleep now. SHe nodded her head and he headed to his own car. He was unable to sleep and after an hour of restless tossing and turning, he went outside. Mack came over and slapped him on the back. "How are you enjoying California so far?"
"Mack, you remember my telling you about my sister, she was married to Gary's brother. Well I saw her today, and she made me promise not to tell Bobby or Christopher, I just don't know if I should keep that promise or not. What would you do if your wife ran away and someone you knew could help find her?"

Mack pondered the question in his mind. "Cliff, you remember how I was after Anne was torn from me. Her parents disapproved and hid her away. If someone had told me where she was and that she was pregnant, I would have been eternally grateful. It was wrong for me not to know about my child, and for Paige not to have been raised not knowing me."
Cliff nodded, remembering all to well the depression that he and Greg and Phil had to pull him from. "I am going to tell Bobby but it is going to be hard."
"But it is the right thing to do." Mack said with conviction. "Now onto other topics."
"Such as?"
"Val"
"Not you too. Look, Val is a big girl and can decide who she wants to date. She dosen't need you, Gary or Bobby to protect her from the wicked Barnes family."
"Cliff, Gary and Val belong together."
"That is her decison to make, not yours." He insisted. "All I did was ask her out, she accepted."

Cliff laid down his fork and pushed back his chair. "Thank you Val, that was a wonderful dinner."
Val smiled as she murmured "you are welcome." She turned serious, "Cliff, we need to talk."
"Okay."
"I've been hurt in the past by Ben and Gary. I enjoy spending time with you, but I just want to be friends."
Cliff nodded his head. "You know, I've dated two women who have been with the Ewings. Somehow when a woman and a Ewing man fall in love, she belongs to him body and soul. She might flirt with other men, but won't ever really belong to anybody else the way she does to her man. It's the same thing with the man, he might sleep around, but his soul belongs to his wife. Pam, Donna, Sue Ellen and you have an unbreakable bond with the brothers."
Val patted his hand, "I am sorry Cliff."
He smiled sadly, "I let the woman who got under my skin get away."
"Can't you go after her?"
"I don't think so, I had a second chance and I blew it, a couple years ago. I will see you later Val."
He left her house and went to his house. He flopped down on his sofa and picked up his phone to call Bobby. He arranged to have coffee with him tomorrow morning.

Bobby entered the coffee house and let his eyes adjust to the dim light. He spotted Cliff and hurried towards him.
Cliff shifted uncomfortably in the booth. "Bobby, Sue Ellen bumped into Pam, and she agreed to see me. I promised her I wouldn't tell you, but I think you have a right to know."
"Is she all right?" He pressed anxiously.
"She is fine, she is remarried to a screen writer, and she looks very happy."
"Thank you for telling me."

Bobby sat down in a comfy easy chair. He leaned back and closed his eyes. How could he get ahold of Pam? He wondered. He let his mind drift back to the first time he danced with her, it was love at first sight on his part. He would do anything to get her back, even now after all the pain. He replayed the conversation with Cliff in his mind, and remembered that he said she was married to a screenwriter. He resolved to hunt him down somehow.

Pam sat in Val's living room. "Thank you for helping me when I needed a place to go."
"Pam, I know only too well the pain that the Ewing family can give. It was my pleasure to help you."
"I need to disappear again, I bumped into Sue Ellen and I caved and let her bring Cliff to see me. That was a big mistake, I made up a husband, but I know he will tell Bobby, and Bobby will knock on every door to find me, he is very stubborn."
Val touched her hand, "When I lost my memory, I went to a place called Shula. They have very nice people, and it is off the beaten track, if I had to hide, that is where I would do it."
She nodded and left.

Pam stood in the airport terminal. She shivered with indescion, she longed to go to Bobby and feel his arms around her once again. She also knew that she should get on the plane to Memphis and stop causing him so much pain. With a deep sigh, she forced herself to begin walking, and she boarded the plane. She was the last passenger, and the flight attendent closed and locked the door behind her. Within ten minutes, they were airborne.
A tear rolled down her check, hopefully this would be the last time she had to do this.

She breathed in the muggy air, and looked around in confusion. She wondered where she was and more importantly, who she was. She had been jostled and fell down, striking her head on the concrete. She rubbed the bump, and was approached by a nice looking man. "May I help you, ma'am?"
He helped her to a bench. "I am Ken Ward."
She blinked back tears, "I don't know who I am."
He patted her hand comfortingly. "Can you remember anything?'
"Chris is the only thing that comes to mind, but I don't know why the name is so important to me."
He motioned to a pretty young woman nearby. "Erin Molly, do you think you mom would take in this lady?"
"Yes, she has a big heart."
"Okay, since I live alone, I don't think you should stay with me, but my daughter will take you to my exwife, Ginger. And since Chris is the only name you remember, why don't we call you that."
"Thank you. But where are we?"
"We are in Memphis, I live in Nashville through. I am on vacation here."
