Short story
Cecil Colby was truly in love with his future wife, whether or not she was in love with him was the question. It bothered him that she still lived in the art studio that her former husband had built for her, but it seemed to make no matter, at least not to her. That bothered him, that she could so easily live on the Carrington estate and not have a problem with it, he sure did. In fact he had even offered to move her into his penthouse just to keep her away from Blake. She had refused, claiming that she wanted to be close to her children, and the only way to do that was to live in her studio. After the last meeting he had had with Blake he was sure that it wouldn’t be too long for Carrington to start watching his ex-wife a little closer. The last thing that Cecil wanted was to lose out to Blake Carrington again.
Alexis Carrington sipped the glass of champagne that Cecil had poured for her before he left, he was a wonderful man, loving and generous. However did she love him, not really, not like she had loved…….well that didn’t matter anymore, he had more than shown that he had no interest in her, at least not anymore. She could remember a time when Blake couldn’t keep his hands off her, when all she had to do was bat her eyes and give him the half smile he loved so much and she would be in the nearest room with the door locked and her clothes would be off. She had been so close in Rome; she thought that things might progress far enough that she could finally be rid of the blonde bimbo, but in the last moment Blake had pulled back. He had wanted her, she had wanted him, of those two things she was sure, but she just couldn’t seem to push him over the edge. It would only take one time for her to get him back in her bed and the secretary would be long gone.
Krystal Carrington was scared, she had been nervous when she had first started dating the infamous Blake Carrington of Denver Carrington, she had been more nervous when she had met his children. It had become much worse when she found that they were more cultured, and sophisticated than she could ever hope to be. Thankfully Steven had been a friend and help as she planned the wedding of the decade. Now she was scared again, the illusive mother to Fallon and Steven had come back to Denver, and not only was she beautiful, she was confident and very much seemed to want her life back. Krystal didn’t know how to deal with Alexis, she had tried violence but that didn’t seem to be the answer. She had been hoping that this engagement to Cecil would be the answer she needed to keep Alexis from their lives, but it just seemed to make things worse. Especially since the fact that her marriage to Mark had never been resolved, it just seemed like Blake pulled further and further away from her and closer to Alexis. The injury of Steven didn’t help; it certainly brought them closer, much closer than she would like to see.
Blake Carrington was angry, he had ran into Cecil this morning leaving the art studio, it was obvious that he’d been there all night and then the bastard had the nerve to smirk at him all afternoon in the meeting they’d been it. Not to mention the smart remark that he’d made about Blake be a idiot to let Alexis go in the first place, like he didn’t know that. Blake had loved her more than anything, but his stupid pride had gotten in his way, and he’d been paying for it for years. It wasn’t like he could do much about it now; he was married to Krystal, or was supposed to be except he wasn’t married, not to Krystal. The only woman he’d been married to was Alexis and he couldn’t seem to get her off his mind. She was the mother of his children, the love that was supposed to last forever, and now he was with someone else and very soon so would she. That was what was really making him crazy, the idea that she could have a child with someone else, the only one who should have children with Alexis, the only one who should make her pregnant was him.
Blake had had a long hard day and Denver Carrington, first Jeff abdicating his position at Denver Carrington to go to work for Cecil at Colby Co. While he appreciated the idea of having Jeff there and watching over Cecil and his operations with the intentions of passing anything of importance on to him was great, however, now his workload would be that much heavier. It would have helped to have some support at home, but of course Krystal had moved into La Mirage earlier in the week, Fallon had flown to Haiti to end her marriage to Jeff, and Adam, well he was his mother’s son. As his car pulled slowly into the drive of his home, he wondered if it was even a home anymore. His wife or who he thought was his wife was gone, his daughter had flown off to end what he had thought was a strong union. Both of his sons were out of his reach, Adam at Colby Co, thanks to Alexis putting pressure on her beloved intended and now Jeff was gone as well. As for Steven, well he had thrown away his family and run from Denver. His family scattered to the four winds and for the life of him he couldn’t figure out how to put it all back together.
Joseph almost pounced on him as he walked in the door of the mansion. “Sir, you have to do something with that woman!” Blake sighed in resignation, he was fairly certain he knew just what woman Joseph was referring to. “Well old friend what has she done now?” Joseph harrumphed in indignation, “she has insinuated herself in the nursery with master LB, and will not leave. I would appreciate it Sir if you would ask her to please leave. She is not needed here.”
Blake looked at his majordomo and shook his head, “I will take care to remove her immediately Joseph.” With that Blake handed over his coat and briefcase to his faithful servant and started up the stairs. As he was moving up to the second floor, his anger started to build, his family the family he had been so proud of a few short months ago had started coming apart at the seems when she had shown up. She had been the cause of the strife between he and his wonderful Krystal, she had caused the problems between he and the children. She had sent Sammy Jo off, which in turn caused Steven to run away, she had taken Adam in right away, making him look like a heel for doubting whether or not the boy was his son. Fallon had slowly started turning to her mother more and more and Blake couldn’t help but think that his beloved daughters quickie divorce in Haiti didn’t have something to do with her slut of a mother. As Blake stormed toward the nursery he was more determined than ever to throw that woman out his life and his heart and his family for good.
As Blake reached the nursery door, his anger spurning him on what he saw made him stop cold. There sat Alexis, in the rocking chair with LB in her arms, both sound asleep. As he stared at the scene before him in amazement, he couldn’t help but remember the other times he had come upon her in this room, in that same chair with one of their children in her arms. Her dark curls hanging around her beautiful face and a baby cuddled up on her chest, listening to her heart beat. The anger that Blake had built up on the way up the stairs faded instantly, she was so perfect sitting there, it was almost like he had stepped back in time to when their children were young. The nights he would come home late from work and find Alexis rocking one of their babies, trying to stay awake to see him, yet never succeeding. How many times in the past had he come into this room to find her this way and slowly have to pick the baby up and put them in their crib as to not wake them, then turn to find Alexis had awakened and gave him that sleepy smile with her eyes still half closed under her long lashes. How many times had he helped her out of the chair and they had held hands as they made their way from the nursery to their bed room where he would slowly undress her voluptuous body and make love to her? Their sex life had always been wonderful when they were married, after Alexis had left it had often been the center of many of Blake’s heated dreams, and still was. But when he would make love to her after finding her in the nursery, it was always been so special, almost sacred, like the joining of their bodies was like the merger of their souls. They were always so in tune and in touch with each other, he could forget about whatever had happened during his day and just enjoy his wife and growing family.
Blake contemplated what to do, his heart was pounding so painfully in his chest that it almost hurt, the scene before him was so heartbreakingly perfect he almost couldn’t bear it. He would give almost anything to follow his instincts and put the baby down, then take the beautiful woman holding him directly to bed. As he stood there watching, LB wiggled a little causing Alexis to instinctively rub his back with her left hand the light glinting off the massive diamond engagement ring on her finger, reminding Blake that she didn’t belong to him anymore. Blake then quietly turned in the doorway of the nursery and headed for the library, he needed a drink, and probably many of them. As he entered the door Joseph was hot on his heels, in his hands was Alexis’ mink coat. “Sir, where is Mrs. Carrington, I have her coat ready and waiting.”
Blake poured himself a large brandy and shook his head, “she’s still in the nursery Joseph and I will take care of it just leave the coat over on the couch please. That will be all for the night Joseph.” Though Joseph was shocked and somewhat hurt by the abrupt way he had been dismissed, he had enough dignity to do as he was told and retreat leaving Blake alone in the library. After Joseph had left, Blake slowly walked over to the mink laying across the couch, slowly running his hand over the soft fur. He set down his glass and picked up the fur, bringing it to his nose, and inhaling the scent of Chanel and something that was uniquely Alexis, as he looked at the coat closer he realized it was the mink he had given her on their last anniversary. He couldn’t believe she’d kept it all these years, that she still would wear it, as he breathed in her scent again he knew what he had to do. He placed the coat back where it was, picked up his brandy which he downed in one drink and headed back up the stairs.
This time as Blake approached the nursery, he knew what to expect, and there they were, just as he had left them. Cautiously Blake moved into the room, taking care not to wake the sleeping baby or Alexis. He made his way over to the window seat across the room and made himself comfortable, he just wanted to watch them for a little while, just to pretend for a little while that their life was just as perfect as this moment was. As he looked at them, he wondered not for the first time what his life would be like if he and Alexis had worked things out, if they had stayed together, what would their lives be like? Would they have been happy, or would they be one of those staid complacent couples who went through the motions, but had no real passion for each other anymore. He had a hard time believing that if they had stayed married it would have been a bed of roses, but he also had to wonder how different things might have been, would Steven still have been a homosexual, and would Fallon have turned out as wild as she had, if she’d had her mother to influence her instead of only him? How Adam would have fit back in his family could have been completely different as well, the resentment his eldest son felt for him could perhaps been avoided if Alexis had been by his side when he returned to the family fold.
As Blake pondered all these questions, the revelation he’d come to earlier that Alexis was the cause of all the problems in his family was unfounded, in fact the cracks had been there before she’d returned, it was just her reappearance in his life that made those cracks become obvious. The fact that all the children had slowly started gravitating back toward their mother and away from him proved that he had been very wrong all those years ago. She was who had held the family together all those years ago, and the farce that he had tried to create with Krystal was just that a farce, a farce to soothe his own ego, to try and pretend that he could still have a perfect life without Alexis in it. Well he was damn tired of trying to pretend that he could have the life he wanted without Alexis in it. She had tried to seduce him in the past and he had always pushed her away, brought up the old anger at her infidelities and used that as a reason to keep her at arms length. Not any more, Blake was a man who rarely admitted that he had made a mistake and he almost never apologized, but now, as he looked at his beautiful ex-wife and sleeping grandson, he realized he had to do both.
Alexis awoke to the feeling of the warmth of LB being moved from her chest, as she looked up in the dim light, she saw Blake carefully holding LB as he moved him towards his crib. In her sleep fogged mind, she was transported back in time to when he used to do the same thing with their own children, after she had fallen asleep in the nursery rocking them to sleep. As her consciousness slowly came back to her she realized that this was not their children, it was their grandchild, and not only was Blake putting him in his crib, but he would probably be furious with her for being there. As Blake slowly turned to face her the anger she’d expected to see in his eyes was absent, instead, his eyes were soft and his face was mellow, almost as if he’d had been having the same memories that she’d had upon first waking. “Blake, I’m sorry I’m still here, but LB was teething and fussy and with Fallon gone…..”
“Hush Alexis, it’s fine, I’m glad you were here with him. He needed you here with him.” Blake then slowly started moving back towards the rocking chair where Alexis still sat, and just like in the past held out his hand for her. Alexis looked at Blake’s outstretched hand and then back in his eyes, something had changed in him she could see it. She had always been able to judge what was going on in Blake’s mind by what was in his eyes. Since her return to Denver all she had seen in those eyes was anger, and hate, on a few rare occasions she could have sworn she seen lust, but this was different. Tonight his eyes were different, they were soft, warm, and welcoming. Alexis didn’t know how to react to this Blake, to the husband that she remembered from the past, the man that she remembered from all of their good years together. Maybe her brain was still fuzzy from sleep, but it almost seemed as Blake was trying to tell her something. After a hesitation she carefully reached out and placed her hand in his.
Alexis allowed Blake to pull her out of the rocking chair and following her instincts she went towards the crib to check on the baby, pulling his blanket tighter around him and pressing a kiss to his forehead. As Alexis stood back up she could feel the heat from Blake’s body right behind her, she then felt his arms slip around her waist from behind and pull her back against him as he observed the sleeping baby over her shoulder. Alexis knew she could be making a huge mistake, but the temptation was too great, so she slowly leaned back against Blake’s shoulder and turned her head to nuzzle into his neck. The familiar scent of his cologne and the perfect fit of their bodies another piece of a forgotten past that still haunted her. What surprised her more than anything was that instead of pulling away Blake pulled her tighter and slid his arms up to pull her around towards him, sliding his hand up the center of her back and into her long, dark, curls and tugging carefully to tip her head towards his. Gently, as if to give her time to stop him he tilted her head up and allowed his lips to hover over hers for a millisecond, allowing her to make the choice. Alexis hesitated for just a second then reached up to complete the connection, fusing their lips together then sliding her hands up his arms and twining them in the soft hair at the nape of his neck.
This kiss was what all first kisses should be soft and supple, their mouths moving in unison and their lips slowly exploring each other before their tongues came into contact hesitantly at first then with ever increasing ardor. No matter how much they denied it, or who else they were with, their bodies remembered the passion that they held for each other and their embrace that had started out almost innocently became more heated as their mouths continued to move together. Finally Blake pulled away and looked into Alexis’ soft eyes, his quickly hardened reaction to her was all the proof he needed that he would never get her out of his system. “God Alexis, I can’t help it, I want you, stay with me tonight, please, I need you.” Alexis mind still somewhat sleep fogged, could barely differentiate between the past and what was happening between she and Blake now, she only knew that she wanted him as badly as he wanted her. She did the only thing she could do, she pulled Blake back towards her and nipped his lip then muttered into his mouth”yes.”
Blake led Alexis out of the nursery and towards the master bed room, their hands joined and his excitement growing ten fold with every step he took. As he looked down at Alexis he couldn’t believe that she had agreed to this, but he was over the moon that she had. When he opened the door to the master suite Alexis suddenly stopped, her hesitation making Blake’s heart drop in his chest, she couldn’t change her mind, not now. Suddenly he realized why she was hesitating, he pulled her closer and whispered into her hair” it was our room first, and it will be our room last. I want to make love to you in our room in our bed, the bed that you gave birth to Fallon and Steven in, that’s what important sweetheart, what’s happened in between doesn’t matter anymore, it’s the past and it’s forgotten.”
Alexis looked up at Blake with tears shimmering in her eyes, “do you really mean that Blake, is the past forgotten? And even if it’s forgotten can it be forgiven, after everything we’ve done to each other?”
Blake slowly pulled Alexis into their bedroom and shut the door, “sweetheart, not only is it forgotten it’s also forgiven, what we’ve done to each other we did because we still loved each other, I realize that now. Now why don’t you let me show you the future.” With that Blake pulled Alexis to him and brought his mouth down to hers, he then painstakingly started to unbutton her blouse, knowing that this was a night he would want to remember forever, the night that he had finally realized his mistake and was going t/o make it right. As he started revealing Alexis’ soft white skin, he felt his excitement continue to grow. As if coming out of a trance Alexis started to return the favor, unbuttoning his dress shirt and pulling it loose from his waist band. After she had pulled his shirt loose she ran her hands up inside of it, reacquainting herself with the feel and texture of Blake’s chest. She stepped closer to him, bringing her mouth in contact with the sensitive hollow at the base of his throat, the taste and texture of his skin under her mouth was something that she had dreamed about for years, she could feel her self becoming aroused just simply by the feel of Blake’s skin.
Blake’s moan of delight was all the reward she needed to continue on with her quest. She carefully slid his shirt off of his shoulders and slowly ran her nails up his back and into his hair. If this was a dream she certainly didn’t want to forget it and she definitely wanted it to last. Alexis then ran her lips slowly up his neck, tasting the lingering aftershave and the slight feel of stubble as she made her way upwards to his jaw and then slowly over to his lips. “God Alexis I’ve missed you, I’ve missed us.”
Blake knew that his libido was in overdrive and if he didn’t take over soon, then things might go down in a hurry. The careful removal of clothes was over, Blake didn’t even bother with finishing unbuttoning Alexis blouse, just hurriedly pulled it over her head while frantically searching for the zipper on her skirt. His lust was driving him now, and he had to have her and have her now. Alexis seemed to pick up on his increase of pace and rapidly helped him with the dispensing of his pants. Once they were both bared to each other they stepped back and evaluated the changes time had made to their bodies. They looked each other up, then down, then they looked into each others eyes and smiled. Not being able to take the anticipation anymore, Alexis ended their torture and stepped into Blake’s arms, threading her arms around his neck and whispering into his ear, “take me to bed Mr. Carrington.”
With no further ado, Blake picked Alexis up and strode towards the bed. As he carefully deposited her in the center of the bed, he admired the way the moonbeams seemed to highlight strategic portions of Alexis’ body and shadow others. He made his mind up that at some point before the night was over he was going to trace those with his mouth. As he looked up at Alexis he couldn’t help but marvel at how perfect her body was, if there were any changes between the woman in his fevered dreams and the woman ying next to him he couldn’t discern them. “You are so beautiful, darling.” Blake then starting running his hands over her, reacquainting himself with all the things that made Alexis moan. Soon Alexis returned the favor and as the hours of the night flew and then morning light slowly started streaming in the window, their passion still had not burned itself out.
Exhaustion finally overcoming them, they snuggled close together in the center of the bed, wrapped in each others arms, so in synch with each other even their breathing was matched. Closing her eyes, Alexis had never felt so content in her entire life, the man she loved more than anything had spent the night making love to her, in their house, in their bed, had proclaimed he had made a mistake all those years ago, that he still loved her. She was fighting sleep, afraid if she went to sleep, that it would all be a dream, she would wake up and find herself alone, or even worse with Cecil. Where they went from here she didn’t know, but she’d be damned if she’d have happiness this close in her grasp and let it go again. Blake was still running on the adrenaline of the night he’d just shared with the love of his life. He hadn’t felt this wonderful in years, he had Alexis wrapped in his arms and he had no intention of letting her go again, Cecil Colby be damned. The one niggle of guilt that he did feel was toward Krystal, he did love her, in a way, but not with the all consuming passion he had for Alexis. It wasn’t as if he had cheated on her, technically they weren’t even married, she was still married to that tennis bum, and though he gone through the motions of trying to reconcile with her, he’d been having his doubts. Somehow in the back of his mind, he had wondered if he wanted to spend the rest of his years with a woman who seemed to run out on him when things got difficult, and was constantly questioning why he did things. With Alexis he knew what to expect no matter what happened he knew he could count on her support, she had stood unwaveringly by his side in years past and had never questioned why he did things.
Cecil Colby was furious, he’d spent almost half the night waiting for his fiancée in her studio, yet she’d never shown up. He had finally let exhaustion take over and had fallen asleep on the couch in Alexis’ studio. He awoke to sunshine pouring in and a splitting hangover from all the bourbon he had consumed the night before. As he slowly arose and straitened himself up his anger once again surfaced when he realized Alexis had not returned at all last night, he had known that he shouldn’t allow her to stay here. He knew she still had feelings for her ex-husband, and he knew that if Blake pushed she would end back in his bed. As he stormed out of the studio Cecil knew just where he could find Alexis and he’d be damned if he’d let that bastard win again. He was storming around towards the front of the house when he ran into the one person he could count on to help keep Alexis and Blake apart, Krystal.
Blake slowly awoke to a feeling of contentment he hadn’t had in years, as he looked down at the woman in his arms he remembered why, Alexis the woman he loved to distraction was still sound asleep. Her head was tucked into his chest and he could feel her heart beating stolidly against his own, the feel of her naked skin against his causing his arousal to increase again. The way Blake was feeling right now he had every intention of calling into Denver Carrington and taking the day off to spend with Alexis, preferably in bed. Just as Blake was about to rouse the beautiful woman sleeping in his arms a cry from down the hall did that for him, not only alerting him that his grandson was also awake, but that he needed assistance.
Alexis awoke with a start to the sound of the baby crying down the hall, as she lifted her head from Blake’s chest she realized that last night had not been a dream, she really was curled up next to Blake and they had made love all night long. It had been as wonderful as she remembered and now as she gazed up at her lover she found she was being watched and his eyes were just as warm and loving as they had been the night before. Her voice was raspy as she whispered “Good morning” and leaned up for a morning kiss. As she leaned against him she could feel that his interest was definably pointed in the right direction, it was amazing to think that after last night he still wanted her. Suddenly a distinctive cry broke the reverie, then with a sigh, Alexis pulled away from Blake groaning as she did so and slipping out of bed slid his discarded shirt on from the night before. “I’ll be right back darling, don’t leave.”
Blake grinned his famous Cheshire grin and “stated, sweetheart I’m not going anywhere today, we’re going to stay right here and get reacquainted, why don’t you go tend to LB and I’ll go find us some breakfast.” Alexis’ returning smile was all the conformation he needed that his plan was accepted and approved. Blake was whistling as he went to find his robe, pulling it on as he thought about how the future would be. He was tying his robe with the intention of heading downstairs when the door of his bedroom was suddenly slammed open and in the doorway was a furious Krystal with Cecil right behind her. “What the……Krystal what are you doing here?”
Krystal’s anger was tantamount, “where is she Blake? Where is the whore you spent the night with?” Krystal’s fury bringing her inside the room and clearly proving that not only had Blake not spent the night alone, but the lingering scent of perfume proving just who he’d spent the night with. How could he be such a bastard, she thought he’d loved her, he’d told her time and again that Alexis was the past and she was the present. But the proof was there, proving that he still had feelings for Alexis and apparently had acted on them last night. “You bastard, you slept with her in our bed? How could you be so cruel?”
Before Blake could stutter out a reply a voice from behind interrupted, “well Krystal it was our bed way before it was yours, now I’m sorry but I’m just wondering what exactly you’re doing in our home.” With that Alexis slid around the angry pair in the doorway and moved over to stand next to Blake. Her lack of anything but his shirt the final conformation of what had happened between them the night before. As she moved in next to Blake his arm slipped around her waist and tucked her into his side, his eyes alight with delight and desire as he saw Alexis dressed only in his shirt. He loved it when she wore his clothes and with those legs that were showing under his shirt he wasn’t sure he could even make it back downstairs. Alexis gave Blake her trademark half smile as she looked up at him. “LB just needed more teething gel and a diaper change, the nanny is with him and feeding him his breakfast, he’ll be fine now.”
“That’s wonderful sweetheart, if that’s all he needs, this teething has been much worse for him then for Fallon.” Blake grinned down at the woman standing next to him, the fact that she’d come to his rescue and was standing by his side, was all the conformation he needed that he was making the right decision. With that Blake leaned down and pressed a kiss to her forehead, then slid his hand over to her left hand, stripping her of the ring that Cecil had given her. The ring in hand he did the only thing he could think of, he tossed it towards Cecil who was still standing mutely behind Krystal his glare boring holes in Blake. “Sorry Colby, but the lady belongs with me, she always has and she always will, I’m certain you were the one who proclaimed that I was an idiot for letting her go before and now I’m rectifying that situation. Find yourself another woman this one is mine, she always has been and she always will be, “
Alexis could hardly contain her laughter as the jilted pair in the doorway stood there with their mouths agape. She had trying to find a way to get rid of Krystal since her return to Denver and now Blake had done it himself, he had shown not only Krystal but Cecil as well that they were truly back together. However she did feel bad for Cecil, he’d been paranoid about this for the last few weeks, and now she proved his suspicions true.
“Cecil, I’m sorry, but Blake and I, well we still love each other and it wouldn’t be right for me to try and marry you when I feel this way him. I hope you can understand that I never meant to hurt you with this, but Blake is the love of my life and the father of my children, I want to be with him.”
As badly as Alexis felt for Cecil, she couldn’t help but have some measure of elation of finally beating out her competition, of finally winning over Krystal. “Now if you two will excuse us Blake and I have some other plans for this morning, and they don’t include leaving this bedroom.” With that Alexis pushed Krystal and Cecil from the bedroom and slammed the door, clicking the lock firmly in place, before turning to give a wicked grin at her lover. “So now I’m your woman?”
Blake used the tail ends of his shirt to drag Alexis close to him and then pulled her up close to him. “Damn right you’re my woman, you always have been and you always will be. Now quit talking and lets have some breakfast?” With that Blake grabbed Alexis’ hand and drug her unceremoniously back toward the bed.
Spending no time on necessities he simply yanked his shirt apart, buttons flying in a massive trajectory as he gained access to what was beneath the shirt. “Sorry sweetheart but we need to make the best of this situation, I can only wait for so long. Oh yes, this is what I wanted..”
Blake unceremoniously bounced Alexis back on the bed, wasting no time in utilizing his mouth and his hands in reacquainting themselves with her body. With a guttural groan, Blake looked down at Alexis and proclaimed, “do you know how many years that I’ve dreamed about this?”
Alexis moaned under his mouth, wondering how she had gone all this time making love to other men, when the only one who could make her feel like this was Blake. This man could make her body sing, he was the only man who could do that. “Blake, make love to me, now, in our house, in our bed.”
“I would love to Mrs. Carrington, now I’m just wondering when you will put your ring back on, I can only keep it in my pocket for so long, I think that there are many more other things that you should be concerned about.
With that Blake slid the black box out of his pocket and slipped the familiar gold band into her hand, closing her fingers over the band. He then took the other gold band out of the box and slid it into her hand, closing her fingers around it. Blake hoped she would just slide it back on his finger as well.
